OK, just to clear things up a bit here. Is an instructable required for the gift that is created? I would assume so, but I just wanted to know for sure.

Yes, you need to post an Instructable or Slideshow of the gift you create :)

Well, you got the form in the right place, but I'm afraid you need to have a featured Instructable to be eligible for this first gift swap.

Hi, Is the matching done in pairs literally, meaning A being matched to B is equal to A sending a gift to B and B sending one to A? Or could it be that A is to send a gift to B, B to C ..... Z to A.? As it happens the participant to be sending a gift to me, contacted me, looking forward to a gift from me, but I got a match for someone completely different. We're confused.

Sorry I didn't want to enter the Gift Exchange... and I can't find how to remove my name. How do I Op-Out?

I'm  confused again, this time about deadlines:

On the Contest Page linked to above, it says "...open until June 30," but the little "Contests" sidebar thingo at lower right says "Enter by July 28, 2010".

Is June 30 the deadline to post your gift exchange forum topic, and July 28 the deadline to mail your completed gift?
If not, what are those two deadline dates?

Thanks :)

Yup, you are totally right. And it is confusing! Right now we don't have a system built to manage something with two deadlines. And the way to to make the contest-based organizational system work out is to make the "main" deadline the end of the project making period. It's just a weird burp for the moment. But the more of these burps everyone points out, the better we can make a new system for the next gift swap! So please. keep commenting!

You want me to point out every last litle burp and quibble I find?
(My poor old mother did try to teach tact and manners once, but) I can do that! :) :) :)

Well, tact is appreciated. As is an understanding that we're also trying to figure out how to manage these little hiccups as well. :)

Well, I'll try for tact, just not to the point of "not saying anything at all."
And I do understand that Robot is only human. :)

Sorry to be difficult, but I'm just plain curious:
Why does each gift exchange questionnaire need to be posted as its own forum topic?

(It kind of seems like it'd make more sense for them to be posted as comments somewhere, or PMs to a dedicated mailbox, or something like that...)

It's our first attempt at getting all of the answers in one place that's still accessible to everyone else. We want you to be able to read what everyone else is saying too!

It will be in early August. You will also have the opportunity to post it early if you finish early.

If you get it done early, you can ship it early! Or make something you can take with you and ship from abroad?

Yay! Can you make a note of it in your forum post to make sure it doesn't fall through the cracks? (if you haven't already. . . )

SO do we make a instructable of the gift and can we make more than one gift?

Make as many gifts as you can fit into whichever size group you choose. Additionally, there may be a call for some "angel" gifters, if for some reason someone cannot fulfill their responsibility. Let me know if you're interested in such a thing!

Ok, posted one in Community Blog: I hope I did that correctly. Let me know if I should include something different, more specific, or if it did not appear where it should have.

A new forum post or here? I'll go with here and move it if you disapprove... My skills include: electronics, basic woodwork, engineering, cooking What I'd like to make for someone: possibly a laser cut version of my floating shoe rack? Or a cool homemade electronics project? I'd be willing to make this size gift package for someone (choose all that apply): M I'd be willing to receive a smaller or larger size gift package from someone than the one I make for someone else: yup What I like: technology, gizmos, arty things What I don't like: moldy food from overlong postage I absolutely can't have: nothing Type of thing I'd love to receive: surprise me! Would you be willing to ship to an address outside your own country? Oh go on then. Confirm that are at least 18 years old or, if not, that you have the approval of a parent or guardian: I am.

My Skills: Mostly electronic, I do some shop stuff once in a while but I'm limited due to lack of tools. What I'd Make: Something that would get someone interested in electronics. An LED Cube or Matrix perhaps? I'd be willing to make this size: I can promise a small or medium but I might be able to do a large, not sure how the money goes right now. I'd be willing to receive a smaller or larger gift package: Absolutely. What I like: Even though I like electronics a lot, I try to keep open minded about what I like, pretty much anything! What I can't have: I can't do cats, sorry! Type of thing I'd love to receive: Anything that will cathc my eye and get me interested in a new topic, anything electrical, anything that's like misc like house decorations or wall hooks or upside-down book shelves, I love arduino I use it almost everyday so that would be good too, pretty much anything that has good purpose. Shipping?: I can't ship internationally, sorry. 18?: I'm not over 18 but I do have my parent's consent, they like what I build a lot.
