Graphical Search has stopped working Answered

The Graphical Search link has stopped working. I've tried it in both FF and IE8, and nothing happens in either browser when I click the link.

The bug fix last night seems to have resolved the problem. It's working fine in both browsers now.

I mean that clicking the link produces no effect whatsoever. No new page, no blank page, no nothing. Hovering over the link shows https://www.instructables.com/tag/?q=a&sort=featured in the status bar at the bottom of the screen, which I assume is the default search, but clicking the link does precisely nothing.
I've done all the usual cache-clearing activities, but so far, no luck.

As of this post, it's working for me in FF.

It just started working in FF again for me, too. IE8 was still not working a minute ago, but I'll go check again.

Hmm... The link works on my wife's ancient laptop (IE8/WinXP). I'd wonder if there was something wrong with my install on the other machine, but others have reported the same issue over in Answers. Or was it the same issue?

What do you mean by "nothing happens"?  Do you mean that you don't get a new page?  That you get a blank page which never loads?  Or that the search terms you had put in before aren't searched?

The latter is not a bug.  It's how they were able to put the Graphical Search link up front at all.  What that link is is basically a "dummy search" to get you to the interface page (just like the URL I gave you previously).  Once you have the old-style search page visible, you can type any search you want into it, you can use the pulldown menus to filter, and so on.

Sorry, I meant to hit Reply:

The other odd thing is that when I click the link in my prevous post, it works just fine.

Thanks for clarifying!  That is definitely weird behaviour, and if it continues to appear and disappear randomly it's going to be extremely hard to troubleshoot (as I'm sure you know).

If it happens again (and you remember), could you make a note of which page you were on and when, and post here?  That could help Staff figure out if it's a server problem, a scripting (page generator) problem, or something else.

Sure, I'll check the link periodically as I surf, and if it suddenly stops working in FF again, I'll definitely capture the URL.

Gonna put my Beta Tester hat on for a second:
Just to consolidate, as of this post the Graphical Search link in the header is working correctly on every page I've checked in FF (since about 10:30 am Pacific time - prior to that it was not working), and it is not working in every page I've checked in IE8.
My homemade links in this thread are working correctly in both browsers, and it also works to paste the URL directly into the browser bar in both programs. I first noticed the problem at approximately 8:10 am Pacific Time this morning.

As I mentioned, the results are consistent on all pages that I have checked, including:

https://www.instructables.com/
https://www.instructables.com/you/?show=COMMENTS
https://www.instructables.com/tag/type-question/?count=30&sort=ANSWERED
https://www.instructables.com/answers/can-we-have-the-old-search-back-on-instructables/
https://www.instructables.com/id/Stainless-Steel-Rose-from-Scrap-Metal/
https://www.instructables.com/id/Gene-Simmons-Destroyer-Costume/

(takes Beta Tester hat off)

Sorry, I'm really not trying to be pedantic, just reasonably thorough.

The link in this post also works. In the original post, I keyed the URL and it was parsed as HTML (which I was not expecting, as keying a URL didn't create a working link when I tried it a few days ago). The URL in this duplicate post was pasted from the first one along with the rest of the text.

This is all in IE8, BTW. Gonna go try it in FF next.
