I got 85,000 relatively trouble free miles out of my $250 ride. I replaced only the tires, battery and alternator. It still runs, but I think it lost a freeze plug. I told skukbait jr, that if he'd fix it, I'd either pay him for his labour, or give him the car.

I bought a pickup for $1500... still paying it off :-/ It's got about 115k miles on it but runs surprisingly well. The only thing is taking speed bumps at more than 10mph...

One of the best things my parents ever did was keep me in so-so used cars. The things I learned from them have probably saved me about $5000 a year for the last 20 years!
