What a great question. We are all trying to get the essence of the good Instructable. I think it's a combination of all the Checklist Points, and 'How to make a great Instructable, plus flair, talent, timing, subject and good luck. Note: I don't actually believe in luck, rather I see it as chance. If you get the "right" answer, please let us all know.

A general metric of "good" here is "did it get featured?". In order to find out how get featured, have a look at this checklist.

Read a bunch of the featured ones to get a general idea of what is considered to be a good instructable. Then come up with an original , creative and useful idea. Then take a lot of pictures and document your work, (In math its called showing your work which can be more important than getting the right answer) Finally assemble it with your text and publish it.
