The problem with CO2 is the tank you need to store it: heavy steel. Also it tends to cool on expansion you you'd really need some kind of heat-exchanger too. Not a good method.

However, if you can get a solid-block of CO2 it will float on a flat surface quite well, as long as the surface is warm.
