I need to know this because it will be cheaper than buying a bunch of demo springs.
You csn buy it as springs the wire is much thicker

but it is expensive in bulk so I need a way to make springs out of nitinol wire
The nitinol wire you buy is very thin and much too thin to make anything but the lightest spring out of. It is shaped by forming it then heating above its "curing" temperature. This fixes the shape. than when you stretch it and heat it it will return to the remembered shape. "Shape-setting of SMA is a thermally-induced process that occurs when the alloy is heated to temperatures of approximately 500°C for 10 to 25minutes. In most literature, shape-setting occurs in a furnace." from http://www-personal.umich.edu/~btrease/share/SMA-Shape-Training-Tutorial.pdf
