How can I transform old wooden speakers into side tables? Answered

We have old wooden speakers, 26Hx17wx13D, How can I make these into side tables for our livingroom. The height is good but there is not enough surface area and the front of the speakers still has the ugly speaker plastic attached.

Replacing the front grille with a suitably-stained panel of furniture-grade plywood, and adding a top (wood or glass) does sound like the simplest solution.

Or: Do a real number on it. Open it up so it can act as a cabinet as well as a pedestal. If you're doing that, I'd say just turn it around in install a face-frame and door over what was the back of the speaker, which is already both ugly and easy to open.

Or: If they're working and are a respectable model from a respectable brand, find someone who is willing to trade you a pair of end-tables for a pair of speakers.

Get some plywood (or cheaper board) and add that?
