How do I convert an mp4 file to mp3? Answered

I wanted to convert a few podcasts that I've downloaded into songs. I would buy the song, but he only had a podcast of it.(Langhorne Slim- Worries) So how do I convert it into mp3 for easy listening? And I don't want to download anything to have to accomplish this.

I've repeatedly recorded audio with audacity, but come on man - how do you expect to do this without downloading something?
Audacity wasn't a problem for me, easy.

I already have audacity for recording my guitar, but I don't know how to properly import an mp4. I tried importing the mp4 file and it just came out as a jumbled mess of squeals, so what do I do? Is there a way to separate the video and the song?

I play stuff and hit record (Audacity). You might want to check that option to not "software playthrough" - it gives me an echo, and be sure you have the right input (stereo mix). But it works for me.

You play the mp4 with what ever you play your mp4s with and record the sound on audacity.  I do that exact thing for the guitar songs i'm trying to learn.

Right-click on the file and select Rename from the menu that pops up/ Change the file extension from .mp4 to .mp3.
