How do I download new programs in Fedora? Answered

I just successfully installed Fedora 11, but have some questions: I burned install Discs 4, 5, and 6 as CD images, and I can't get their program packages to download to Fedora. Also, how do I download new apps from the internet? Everything I try is usually a tarball, and I don't know how to change it to an RPM. Thanks!

The equal of "apt" (used in Debian based linux) is "yum" To install a programme type a command like "yum install " In the shell you can type "man yum" for all options

You should use the package manager. You'll probably be able to access this from the menu similar to a windows "start menu". Usually if it is a popular program it'll be in repositories included with the package manager, so you won't have to deal with tarballs.

Go to the command prompt and type, "apt-get" or type, "man apt-get"
