How do I rig a light bulb in my dogs house for warmth?

I want to rig a light bulb in my dogs' house so he can keep warm.  I want to put some kind of wire cage around the bulb so he doesn't get burned on it.  I also want to put the cord running to the wall outlet outside in some kind of cover so he doesn't chew the wire.

Use a rope light. There's an instructable on it.

....scale to suit .....

They wont provide much heat  they're leds !

For heat id say mount a lightbulb or two at the sides or underneath the dog house as heat rises.

For the cable get any insulated cable run it from the lightbulb to a plug socket in your house (how my shed gets power)

No, they were filament lamps. You can still get them.

we did something like this for one of my cats.  we have a ceiling with a heat lamp that doesn't hang down so she wont burn herself and we put a thermostat in side so you can set it to turn off and keep the box at a constant temperature but for this to have a real affect on the temp you will have to insulate the box which means you could run the wire threw the wall.  then you could put a roof over to protect everything

You possibly want one of those lamps stockmen use for livestock. I found one on Ebay:
