You could cut out all the body and limb sections individually at the joints, leaving some overlap, then join the pieces together with paper brads and attach the strings to the head and the extremities. Is that what you're looking for?
If your good at origami, make a little origami shape (try the crane) , then punch some holes at the areas the holes should go thrue, and tie your string in those holes .
