How does a BEC work? Answered


I was wondering how a BEC (Battery Eliminator Circuit) for RC cars works.   I know it has 2 wires for the motor, a connector for the receiver, and wires for the battery.  But, I don't know how to connect it.  If someone could explain it, I would appreciate it very much.  Thanks in advance.

The receiver outputs have 3 pins on them - zero volts, power and the control signal. The BEC connector connects to the zero and power lines to provide power for the Rx. The BEc also has a voltage regulator in it to make sure the Rx isn't over powered.

Ok thanks now I get it. How do you change the voltage going to the receiver. For example, I use it with a 6 volt receiver, then I take it out and put it with a 7.2 volt receiver. How do you change it?

You can't change the output of the BEC - but it will regulate the input voltage (within reason) to the 5 volts the receiver needs

I'm not sure what you're not getting.

The BEC just provides a way to eliminate the battery for the receiver.

The two motor wires go to the motor.

The two battery wires go to the battery.

And the receiver plug from the BEC goes into the receiver battery socket.

Now, can you be a little more specific about what you don't get?

What I don't understand is how it provides power to the receiver because the only way it connects to the receiver is on the output of one of the channels( to control the speed of the motor) . How can it provide power if nothing is connected to the battery pins on the receiver?

The channel outputs provide a direct connection to the battery.
