How much is liquid solder flux at menards?
I like to solder things and stuff. I get frustrated when the solder just wont stay or go where I want to. Today I was working on a robot for science olympiad at school and my teacher showed me how to use liquid solder flux. I was amazed by how well it worked. I asked him where he got it and he said menards but he didnt remember how much it cost. Does any one know. I cant drive yet and my family is sick except me so asking a friends mom to give me a ride to menards would be kind of weird. Do you know how much it cost at other stores? I could only find the paste on radioshacks website. It didnt seem to work as well when I used it.
In 40 years of working with an iron, I've never had the problems you've had, with the exception of surface mounted parts, where I use a special paint on flux, as an adhesive as much as anything. Is your iron hot enough ? How many watts is it ?

well, the ones at the school say 25w on them but they seem hotter. I have an unknown wattage iron (mostly used for melting plastic together), a weller 25w pen, and a 5w-40w station from here: http://www.amazon.com/Stahl-Tools-Variable-Temperature-Soldering/dp/B0029N70WM/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1297002962&sr=8-9 it works great. with the ones at school it was taking forever to tin what I think was copper wire. When stripped, it looked kind of like this but much smaller. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2049734 . My teacher handed me the two kinds of flux and I put a little bit of the liquid flux on each wire and they tinned instantly. I think that the paste probably works just as good. I guess I can find out on monday.

I guess your iron tip is dirty - It should be clean, shiny and freshly tinned with solder.

Menards doesn't have flux available online (but you knew that already, right?). Did you try doing a Google search?
If you want to get the same brand Menards sells, you'll probably need to call the store and ask someone (hopefully someone competent!). Then you can do a more detailed online search and order it.
If you order from Amazon, it looks like you're going to pay about $6 for the bottle, and another $6 for shipping. Doesn't seem to matter which brand or which vendor you get it from :-( Good luck!
