How often do you exercise? And what do you do? If not, what's holding you back? Answered

I'm just curious. I guess I'm always curious about other peoples' health habits... you know, being in public health and all. So do you exercise? How long, how often? What do you consider exercise? And if you don't exercise, why not? Right now I'm doing yoga once a week for two hours, and cardio for at least 30 minutes every day, along with weights every now and then. I do them randomly. I probably should be more calculated about that. I guess you guys can considered this extracurricular activities on my part if it makes you feel better about all the questions. :P (Also - work it, Richard!)

Yikes! That picture is enough to make me want to NOT exercise. I don't really get much time....with work, my ailing wife, my ailing Mom.....I am kind of really put out as it were.

I excercise all the time; when I eat my cereal I lift my spoon, when I eat my lunch I lift my sandwich, and when I eat my dinner I lift my fork.

Now that I'm in highschool, I exercise daily. I run up and down stairs, between 3 different buildings. Then there is PE class where we do whatever sport my coach has planned out, which is also daily.

And then at home I lift 2 20 pound dumbbells when I am not tired from school.

Well, I bought an X bike, one of those FitDesk bikes but it didn't fit my heighth so I hacked a shelf to attach to it and put my keyboard on it and my mouse and pedal while I am typing. I like it. The seat was killing my butt. I replaced it twice and it still hurt. I personally think it was because I over did the pedaling and it was a muscular pain. If this new seat I bought today (3rd one) does not suit, I will buy a noseless one.

Anyway, when I am at the puter, I can spend time pedaling. That means I am spending a lot of time pedaling til my butt starts to scream at me. Then I switch back to my chair. I would say, since I hacked the shelf, I am spending about 3 hours a week total on the bike. NO clue how many miles I am pedaling because I do not have a guage. I suppose I could buy a pedometer or whatever you call it.

I like the bike. It does not FEEL like it is doing anything butt... I feel the burn where I am sitting. ;) That is the worst area of unfitness I have.

I don't exercise much anymore :\ I would really like to get back into shape by bike riding but if I want to actually ride someplace like on the 1.5 mile bike path I'd have to have someone with me but almost everyone is doing track

I don't excersise... I think this is because I feel that my metal drumming skills is like an excersize. Double bass works my legs, and the regualr shhhttttuff works my arms. Though I am a little on the heavy side xD

My exercise program has been changing a lot lately. I've been stressed and it's suffered. I'm not doing yoga anymore, but I would like to start again. This morning, though, I rode eight miles while watching Lost, and then did weights and pushups and some ab work. Yippee! At least I'll be in a better mood at work. :D

Basketball! Rock climbing! Riding bikes!! Swimming!! Fun stuff! I do the occasional weight training/treadmill during the winter when its too cold to go out. But I usually prefer doing some kind of sport/activity with my friends.

I'm kinda the opposite. I always work out alone. None of my friends are really into getting into shape, nor are they very active. I do get to do activities at a school a couple times a week with a group of girls, but that's about it. You're lucky you have others that like doing things outside. :P

I use to hate exercising, but then the teenage years, and well, I want to improve my sex appeal. Plus when your all fit and stuff, you feel like you can smash walls, skulls, and the like with ease. I work out on an airdyne exercise machine for about 1/2 an hour, then do some 6pack makers and stretching, with emphasis on speed and agility. Why? I'm very fond of combat sports... If it weren't for the shorts.....

My high school has an open campus, similar to many colleges, so I usually get probably about a mile of walking just going to/from classes in different buildings. I'd ride a bike, but Topeka is not bike friendly at all, except for one nice wide bike trail that goes the wrong direction.

That's about the extent of my exercise, except for manual labor (i.e., usually mowing lawns). I have no interest in sports, at least the ones that schools care about. I love rock climbing, but there aren't exactly a lot of cliffs in NE Kansas. If there was a cliff in the backyard, I would climb it. Daily. Multiple times.

I guess it's a good thing that my metabolism lets me get away with doing nothing, I eat all the time and never gain weight...I wonder how long that will last....

Haha, don't count on the crazy metabolism to last very much longer. Most people I know had it until 18-19 and then *poof* - nothing! Though, you could get lucky. My boyfriend is 24 and still has very high metabolism.

I keep hoping it'll fail so he'll have to start taking better care of himself. ;)

Fortunately, my mommy raised me good. yes, I said "mommy." While I eat a lot, it's usually relatively healthy food. I don't think my family has purchased a pizza for years, unless you count my mom making pizza with whole-wheat crust and homegrown vegetables. She's trained me to like the taste of real food, and to dislike greasy, processed slop that many people eat.

And yet she drinks Diet Pepsi all the time, what's with that?

Eek, diet soft drinks are so awful. I wouldn't drink them if someone paid me. :P My parents were the same way. I had a sit down dinner every night until I was in my mid teens. We weren't allowed soft drinks or sweets unless it was a super fancy occassion. I wish more kids were raised like that these days. :)

Cycle a lot both long haul cycles and to tech and back, in to town when I'm not staying out or drinking, don't want crashing or stolen, or DUI for that matter, gym, weights running and cycling machines.

I can't run on roads or walk over 25 miles in a day or my knee seizes solid, still need to tell doc about that, got a few broken bones in my feet aswell but nothing worth worrying about...

Need to exercise my arms in certain ways due to what feels like twisting muscles in shoulder but could be trapped nerves, sometimes I forget, means I can't lift my arm out beside me without pains, it doesn't physically stop them in any way it's just sore.

Umm I get a lot of exercise from games we play like the bike chariots and such, which is two bikes with a rope between them and a box lid plus triangle with castors... Stuff like that.

Plus I very, very rarely walk up stairs, I can't help but run up them, it's just easier for me, this led to stair racing, found out that you can run a good bit up the wall on landings...

I climb stuff a lot, including random gaps with pressure walks, I never realise until I've been hanging about up there but it's hard on the muscles, used to read in the corner of my room on the ceiling because the chimney breast ran up the middle of a wall, high ceilings, nigh on 14 feet...

Used to rock run in bangor when we lived there, it's somewhere between bouldering and parkour with a bit of racing thrown in, amazing fun, that is until someone falls in the sea or you strip the skin from your hands on barnacles...

I suppose most of it's just life and fun but I do some exercise on purpose, probably giving up the gym membership due to prices though, I reckon a couple of months membership money might be enough to build a simple set of stuff and just cycle...

If I was you I'd probably quit the gym to pay for a doctor visit, haha. And if it makes you feel better I've got awful knees too. Running long distances doesn't really work for me. I tried for years and just recently decided to stick to biking.

It's the fact that any surgery done on a knee will take a long time to heal, plus I want a pimp stick, better than the wheelchair... It's bad because I used to be a good runner, fastest in my school for a while, that fell to bits...

Yes, not to mention in 2009 we stop paying for repeat prescriptions... Basically the NHS (national Health service) is nationalised but going private is important sometimes due to long waiting lists on serious surgeries, it seems to work ok... however it's different in northern ireland than england, we have to pay for some stuff, there are many benefits and stuff like full time education that mean you don't have to pay, also as far as I know you're not made to pay for A&E; visits...
