How to connect a computer to a HDTV and have the audio go through the TV speakers? Answered

How do I connect my computer to my HDTV so that the sound comes through the tv speakers. I bought a HDMI cable (my computer has HDMI out) but when I connected this cable I got picture, but no audio. My PS3 is connected with a HDMI cable also and I do have audio with it. I don't know what I'm missing.

Check in the computer settings; your video out port will probably also have a sound device attached - for sound output you need to configure the computer to output through HDMI not through the usual sound card (to computer speakers)...

In my laptop, When I pull up the speaker/audio settings, it asks if I want to output analog, headphones, spdif digital, or HDMI.  Easy peasy!  (all depends on your hdmi setup in the computer)  Mine is ASUS.

Some tv's or computers don't fully impliment the hdmi cable and you have to use an audio out cable to the a/v input.

Or there may be a setting in the tv to change the audio to hdmi.

Check you computer audio settings and make sure that the hdmi audio out is activated and is a clone of your normal out.
