Can you tell me how to wire the data connectors to the usb cable?

All you have to do is get one of these:

I've used one before with larger IDE drives and it worked great. It looks like this one supports 2.5" laptop drives.

most IT shacks, aka computer repair stores and such will be able to do this, my mum had this done and including the adaptor price and the new harddrive case, total cost came to $18, and you know those places charge an arm and a leg for even the most menial tasks

You can't just wire a USB cable to it. You need aconversion, as John says.
