to augment what Carter said, what you probably have is what is known as a DP-6T rotary switch.
2 poles, 6 throws, and it's most likely that the two circuits are electrically independent from each other.

Use a DMM (digital multimeter) to check continuity between pins, write down that positions contact which pins, and you're done! Thats probably the simplest way unless you know the model number and you can find a data sheet or something online.
