Hydrogen Boosters for ICE's. Answered

I've been reading quite a bit about hydrogen boosters for vehicle motors ( gas and diesel )on the internet. Seems like there's some debate about whether they are effective. They are a bit pricey. Does anyone know of any DIY plans to make such a booster?


I know a guy here in Kansas who makes a living converting Chevy S-10s to electric power. Years ago, he made his own hydrogen car simply by "borrowing" a tank of high-pressure hydrogen and running copper lines to a standard IC engine. Apparently it worked, just not very well. I don't know exactly what he hooked up to what, but hydrogen has a lower energy content than gasoline. Don't bother.

Your engine is designed to run on a particular grade of gasoline. You can add e.g. methanol, ethanol, nitomethane, nitrous oxide, MTBE and various other things but: messing with fuel can damage your engine, and all things considered what advantage do you expect to gain? L (anyone selling these things is going to make a sales pitch, like these dudes selling magnets to morons...)

There are two different versions that I've seen-one electrolysis and one chemical. The electrolysis unit uses electricity produced by the engine/alternator to produce hydrogen-this would use more gasoline energy than it could produce hydrogen energy. The other uses an aluminum-water reaction with a sodium hydroxidesodium hydroxide (lye) or galiniumgalinium catalyst.

They aren't replacements for gasoline, and don't produce a lot of pressure. The sodium hydroxide process could damage your engine if it isn't properly filtered (the lye will be in the hydrogen gas and can start corroding the engine) and the galinium process tends to be slow.
