I have a laptop running Windows 7 and I have run into problems with the Ethernet port.? Answered

Picture of

I have tried to connect with several different wires and I have tested those wires and the ports in my router with another computer and they all work. I went to the device manager and saw an error for my ethernet port. The driver is a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller and the error is:

"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

My guess would be that I disabled one or more services required for this driver but that is only a guess. If someone could help me out I would greatly appreciate it.

uninstall it, you can do that right from the driver tab I believe, and then reboot the computer. This often works because Windows will discover it as new hardware and then will reinstall the drivers. If this does not fix it then you might need to get a USB network connection. There was a rash of onboard network adapters going bad years ago when they first started incorporating them into MB. Those things still happen but not near as often. So the actual NIC could be bad but first go for a software fix.
