I have an imitator. But clicking on their name takes me to...my page... Answered

So "Adrian+monk" commented on my orangeboard. My first imitator! Nice. Guess now I know I've made it. Imitation being the best form of flattery and all... But when I click on their name...it throws me to my page...which is creepy. I know it's genuine, because it says "member since Feb 15, 2007". I'm so confused. Is the staff playing a trick? Or how is this effect produced? Has someone hacked the site? Or did someone join right after me and replicate my every move? Clarification would be exceedingly appreciated.

It's a bug. The + character in membernames is not URL-encoded properly in the link generation, and someone has Taken Advantage of it! It's on the fix list. Let me or another site admin know if you notice the copycat doing anything ... immoral ;)

So by Rachel's explanation anyone with a name that has a space in it can be immitated by creating an account with a + replacing the space in their name?

Yes, but it's easy to tell the difference.  The only thing is that clicking the imitator's name takes you back to the original account's profile.

They commented me and I said little because I checked the link and took no notice, also I seem to have both of you looking the same on my comment tracker, which is desperately confusing... I kind of guessed considering how assumptuous they were...

And, if she ever joins, I'm hoping she picks something easier to spell...

I'm going to start getting them all to join with names like that... I'm not really sure what them refers to though so you shouldn't be spelling much until I do...

. I didn't see the comment on your orangeboard. . Go to your personal page and click "view Profile" . Now look at the URL - Adrian+monk. Spaces replaced by +. . I'm guessing tha someone registered as Adrian+monk and the system didn't form that as Adrian++monk. Very wild guess.

It wasn't anything bad, just "hello, hahahahaha!!!!!!!!" But let's see. The intellectual challenge of identifying this person intrigues me. We have as evidence the uncapitalized hello, the hahahaha, and the million exclamation points. Interestingly enough, we also have a comma, which makes little sense in the comment. Rule out Kiteman. Rule out NachoMahma. Rule out Sunbanks. Rule out ewilhelm. Suspect DJ Radio. Suspect DNTOTP.

>:-( Im very upset and disappointed at you for that comment and your previous comment....................... it dont even smell like something i do. I dont see teh motive behind the faker's acc. He doesnt seem to be causing trouble, but it just sounds like a big problem because you cant get on his/her profile page. If I do something, I always have a reason behind it.........

Well, you have lied, flamed, left, returned, cussed, yelled, needled people and thrown hissy fits. Interesting that you use so many periods instead of ellipses.

i had reasons for all.............. and also, this faker has nothing to do with my flaming, leaving, returning, me in general, and all teh other junk that doesnt matter in the grand spectrum of life......... also, if i have cussed, i censor it, pay attention to that part..... what are ellipses?

> i had reasons for all . And Adrian has reasons. It may not be "fair," but it is reasonable for her to suspect ALL recent troublemakers. . As I explained to you before, reputations have inertia. Mind your P&Qs; for a while and you won't come to mind so readily.

what, i dont try to cause trouble, it just happens because i want to say something, but others misinterpret it into something bad, which probably got worse ever since the fight between me and skate ended.............

. I don't know about the rest of these folks, but you trying to justify what you did is making you look worse in my book. . You screwed up. No if, ands, or buts about it. You may not have intended to, but you did. . Act right for a little while and you can get back into our good graces. Keep making excuses and it may never happen.

(Translation: He has not said directly it is not him. He has danced all around the question, saying "Why do you suspect me?" "I am offended you suspect me", and so forth. But he is not denying it directly. Unlike everyone else, from whom I am getting a chorus of "'taint me!"s.)
