I need help with figuring out what grade of silicone I should be using for a project Answered

Hi all,

I'm a first time poster, but I've been reading instructables for a number of  years now and I really hope this doesn't get flagged or comes off as lewd and crude.

I'm in a situation where I was asked by a friend if I could create a custom sex toy for a performance piece that she is doing.  I have experience in mold making, casting things in plastic resin, wax, as well as creating silicone f/x prostetics for so the mould making side of things is taken care of.

The problem I'm having is figuring out what grade of silicone I should be using for making a toy that is safe for the user. Of course I want to make sure that this will be bodysafe or biocompatible so that my friend isn't harmed by using the toy.

Does anyone have any experience with this or have any directions that they can point me in?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. If this is seen as violating any rules or forum etiquette just let me know and I'll delete the post.

It looks like you need some sort of "medical grade" silicone.  I guess you could search on that term for suppliers. Good luck.
