I want to start in robotics. But as the name explains.. I'm clueless. I know what a micro-controller is and how to build a robot. But programming is another story. Does anyone know a free way to learn how/

Thanks, I've found a control board, Bot board 2. It has 20 servo connections, but i will only use 2 or 3. It also has a Playstation 2 controller connection.

Why not build robots that don't need programming?

Have a look at Robomaniac's projects, find a copy of Junkbots, Bugbots and Bots on Wheels, or google for BEAM robots.

I reccommend if you've never programmed before looking into using either a Basic Stamp II, a PICAXE (my favourite) or a standard PIC with Great Cow basic as a language.

Well, I can recomend a very good book:
Robot Builder's Bonanza
get the second or third edition. I think it costs about 25-35 dollars new. Go to amazon and get it for 3-20 dollars. This book has everything you are looking for and I still referance it on every project.
Here is a link to a preview from amazon for the second edition. There are things about servos, motors, batteries, bases, microcontrollers (OOpic rocks!), line following, sound playback, hacking, voice synthesizers, sensors, wall followings, fire detection, and oh so much more.
