Hang on, is this ratio of (featured instructables):(total published)? Or is it (featured instructables):(total written)? Because if it's the former, my ratio should be 14:58 (0.2413). If it's the latter, I'd better get my backlog sorted out (fifteen unpublished 'ibles at varying stages of completion, some just at title stage).

There are many ways to sort out the best. Personally I don't like this way, but it certainly is one way. Why don't you total everyone's accumulated ratings and divide by the number of Instructables. Don't limit yourself to the featured. This score will not, however, pick up the really good ones posted recently that have not had a chance to accumulate high ratings. Hmmmm. Maybe you could weight recent ratings higher than some of the ancient (throwies comes to mind) Instructables. And of course you should have categories for food, knitting, knex, etc., because what makes a good/popular food Instructable may not be the same as what makes a good/popular higher tech Instructable. If we get to vote, I vote for kipkay.

Or we could just not worry about winning a popularity contest, and do the work because we have a passion for it and share the results because we love to teach.

GOOD ANSWER!
You* get a cookie!

* but, as you said, you have to share it with everyone else because you "love" to do this "teach" thing...

>slap< Stop it. I didn't understand it last time, I'm too old to understand it now.

We're gonna need a bigger cookie!

Go make it, then I'll feature it to increase your ratio!

I get to make my own cookie? using the logic, next time I win an instructables t-shirt, the email will say "congratulations, to collect your prize, write "instructables"on your t-shirt with a sharpie.

This isn't meant to be the end all best, just a succession of ewilhelm's 2008 data dump.

Looks like Eric has you pulling vitals out of the db :D In my opinion, ratio/density metrics like this are more informative... Except for skewed results from those with 1 really awesome project... Did this include unpublished projects?

Yeah, I'm the SQL Monkey :P But yeah, I got the data that should be put up as 2 graphs, and we had to basically chop off the top & bottom 10% so that the rest of the data is readable. And thanks for reminding me, I'll re-run the query!

Actually, and I should make it more clear, these are the percetnages for the other top 50. There's a lot of people with a high percentage of featured instructables, but if they only have 1 or 2, I don't feel that it is interesting data. (Thats why you aren't on this list, Goodhart)

I would not have expected to be on it, but thank you for clarifying :-) That was why I worded my other post as I did. It would not "really" be a true picture of things, if "one hit wonders" were included (although I am gearing up for the next one ;-) .

percentage-wise things can look rosier then they are....if I said I was featured 100% of the time, it is a false picture since I have only had time for one instructable so far. It was just lucky that it was liked.
