In an interview, the boss trying to negotiate with your expected salary, what will you do? Answered

I find it quite hard in dealing the salary with boss whenever its come to  an interview session.
I am facing this problem not because of I set my expected salary high. It is because I know my self well, I am kind of person that 
not firm enough in my point sometime. (sincerely thought that)
and I am kind of soft hearted person. and I am very easy to deal with everything.

I am an illustrator cum graphic designer. My working experience (2 yrs).
I set my expected salary wise, where i though i really deserve that price. -based of my qualification and working experience.
But when come to interview, the boss usually likes to negotiate my expected salary. They will try to make it lower than my expected price.
Even though I try to fight it back in the first stage, but eventually I give up. If I decided to work for that job, I may end up feeling unsatisfying to my monthly salary. 

Upon of all this problem I have facing.... Anyone have any suggestion for me to stand strong on my point? or any solution for me? I need to know, so that next time when I come to interview I can have ready and make sure I satisfy my salary.

Get salary negotiations out of the way at the beginning of an interview. At least at a general level. It seems counter intuitive but it could save having to sit through an interview just to be blind sided by a low ball salary.

Make sure that you get a direct and clear explanation of when and how salary adjustments work. Lots of big companies will have a very rigid process that managers can't deviate from which could lock you in at a lower salary for longer than appropriate. Smaller companies often can be more flexible and offer raises pretty early on if you prove your worth.

When you hear an employers initial offer don't make a knee jerk reaction. Make sure you're educated on the average salary for the position in the market. If you can find data backing up your proposed salary bring it. Don't throw it in their faces, just present it as part of your pitch when you tell them what you were hoping to be paid. If they offer you a job at the inyterview but you are unsure if it is a good deal at the time see if you can get a written offer sheet. This will allow you some time to think about it, do some research, and crunch the numbers without the fear of losing the opportunity.

Also make sure to consider any benefits such as various insurances, bonuses, paid time off. Getting better medical coverage or retirement benefits could offset a lower salary.

I am always willing to start a job at a lower wage because during the first few days or weeks... I am learning thejob and not very efficient until i learn the ropes. So I give them a low amount but not so low they lose respect for me. I know they will increase my wages after I have proven myself as a valuable employee. I think STATING this strategy during the interview shows you are reasonable and fairminded, not just after the BUCKS. Remember it is a 2 way deal. You need them and they need you. This strategy works for me in the ELECTRONICS REPAIR industry... but in other industries maybe it is different because you already know the ropes and can HIT THE GROUND RUNNING! In that case, it would pay to ask for what you are worth.

I would like to share with you a little bit of my experience here.
Being an illustrator or graphic designer in Malaysia is normally a lower-pay job. Unless you are the professions or expertise.

Art is a subjective matter. Some people will know how to treasure the creative idea behind. but some are not.
Being an artist or a designer here, I would say it is quite tough. Because all along, the designer has to first satisfy the client, meanwhile it must perform creatively based on own art sense. Therefore, sometime it's hard to make it balance.

Most of the time, designer have to stay back for the projects. And many agency wouldn't pay for OT (Over Time) fees, they would probably say this is personal responsibility to finish up the project. That means, if you can't finished your project you are considered lack of efficiency.

That is how sometime I think it couldn't be fair for two party. Especially nobody likes to stay back for their job, without paying.
and the increment is low.

Anyhow, I agree from what you have mention regarding the 2 way deal :]

You need to remember that the world's economy is not at its best at the moment so you need to understand that many employers are trying to get the most out of their investments. You need to do your homework and research what is the salary for someone in your field with similar experience. With that knowledge at hand you will feel assertive enough to negotiate a deal.
