Instructables Ate My Rant Answered

I am very disappointed. I just spent 20 minutes typing up a perfectly good rant about how I was going to quit Instructables because my hastily put together  towel-and-paracord project didn't make the contest finals. It was a very good rant, complete with accusations of favoritism and contest rigging, slams at the other projects that did make the finals, thinly veiled insults at the judges and Instructables staff, and other fun stuff.

All tongue-in-cheek, of course. It was intended as a preemptive strike directed toward those who will inevitably whine about the contest results in earnest, in the hopes that a little satirical hyperbole would illustrate the ridiculousness of such whining. It bothers me to see intelligent, rational people turn into five-year-olds when they don't get their way, and I was hoping to forestall some of that with a bit of humor.

All for naught, unfortunately. When I went to post it, it went into the Great Bit Bucket in the Sky. I can only assume that Robot Was Not Amused. Now I shall go and compose a rant about how I'm quitting Instructables because my posts are being unfairly censored. ;-p

.  It may have gotten hung up in the filters.

Maybe, but I doubt it. It never even made it to the Preview step before it went poof, and it doesn't show up in the list of my submitted forum topics. I think it was just a system burp.

There is also a list of unsubmitted topics (on which I discovered something of mine from 7 months ago!).  You might check there and see if it's hanging fire.

If you go to You -> Discussions -> Forums and scroll to the bottom of the first page, if you have any "abandoned" topics they should be listed there.

Otherwise, my condolences for your loss ;->

Well, man, get it out.  It is not good to keep it bottled up inside of your unsubmitted forum topics list.

I did.  Well, actually, I just deleted it because there wasn't really a point any more (a bug report that's since been fixed).

No luck. I don't even see a header for Unsubmitted topics, which I assume means that the site doesn't think I have any unsubmitted topics.

In the process of checking, I did find a minor bug. You -> Discussions -> Forums takes me to the Forum topic list, as intended. The displayed topics are marked "1-10 of 11". When I click Next to see what number 11 is, I get dumped back onto my main You page (Stuff You Like, Recognition, etc.) instead. The listings work just fine on the other tabs under You.

I'd report it as a Bug, but I don't know what the real problem is. I'm not sure if I really have 11 topics and the Next function is broken, or if I really only have 10 topics and the topic counter is broken, or if I have 10 real topics and one corrupted semi-topic caused by my last post going poof and throwing things off, or what.
I also don't know if anyone else has this issue, or if it only occurs for people with 11 topics, or maybe 21 or 31. In my previous incarnation as a  Business Systems Analyst, I hated getting bug reports that consisted solely of "it ain't workin' rite", and I bet the team here hates it too.

That's a bug, apparently.  Other people have reported it as well, but I'm not able to reproduce it myself (I'm on FF 3.6.3, MacOSX 10.5.8).

I'm on IE8 & Win7, so I suppose I should expect some hosed-upedness. ;-p

.  Ohhhhhh. That doesn't sound good at all. :(

Yeah. If it had been an Instructable, I'd be very irritated. Since I was just noodling around on the forums, I'm just mildly bemused. I think I may start prewriting any future 'ibles in Word, just in case.

I am guessing, that if it was rant like in nature, then the filters will have grabbed it and its awaiting a staff member to let it through.

Could be. At this point, it doesn't really matter anyway. If it does eventually turn up, I'll probably delete it, since I've had my fun ranting about the missing rant.... ;-)

I'm in the habit of CTRL-Cing things like this before pressing buttons...

You are wise. I need to get into this habit. Perhaps I'll leave myself a sticky note on the corner of the monitor or something.

I use source quite a bit and find a syntax error will completely destroy code sometimes.
