Instructables the movie Answered

Picture of

I'm calling the attention of all the Instructables Team and Community, together with your suggestions and comments, we can make a very beautiful, suspense, breath-taking movie.

I know that Macgyver blockbuster film is coming and it has a very big budget. I'm hoping that Steven Spielberg will help us in this regard.

Let's make an exciting story. This movie is about invention, innovation, recycle, gadgets, espionage, robots, gizmos, diy, computer whiz, Macgyverism, hacking, satellite, homebrew, offbeat/sneaky/wacky uses of everyday things, problem-solving, strategies, smartness, creativity, etc.

Let's start for example with a fourteen-year old boy who is an instructable freak. He unexpectedly witness a crime scene where the "big brothers" (mafia, yakuza, terrorists, NSA, CIA, etc.) are involved. A conspiracy came out to eliminate him. He is now running for his life. His only tools are his "mossad" skills/talents and the "smartest instructables."

We can develop further this story by the following steps: 1 - Identify the problems which he will encounter to survive 2 - Select smart solutions from instructables 3 - Integrate and converge those situations in each scene 4 - Choose characters for the movie 5 - Let's make a script 6 - Finalization 7 -Dr. Eric Wilhelm, please contact the Hollywood...

Are you with me? List now the links of your favorite instructables that can be used in this movie! And join the forum...

One of the suspense movies that I've seen was "The Fugitive" (1993) by Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones. We can get some idea from this old movie.

That old movie was based on an older TV series "The Fugitive".

You're right. Have you seen it? The suspense is breath-taking, isn't it?

You would probably like "No Way Out", the "Bourne Identity" - series of movies, or something along the lines of Quentin Tarantino - "Pulp Fiction".

Well, he should defiantly make a camera tazer, and the homemade net thrower. Maybe he could also make a wooden staff. You know, homemade weapons.

Select as Best AnswerUndo Best Answer

user

You're right! He must make his own weapons (homebrew, homemade, improvised, etc.). But the "weapons" which he will used must not be similar in nature with the "Home Alone" movie. It must be a little bit complicated like what you have mentioned.

https://www.instructables.com/id/home-made-stun-gun/ This is a stun gun made from a disposable camera. While the instructable says to solder things together, you can also accomplish a lot by merely twisting the wires into place.

theseventhsage (author)malsonc2011-09-27

Much better not to use much of soldering especially in an emergency situation where no soldering iron is available except of course if there is an instructable to make an improvise for such a device..

Homemade weapons? Something along the lines of my instructables? I have lots of homemade weapon I'bles, but here are two examples:

- Homemade steel pair of Tonfa or police baton/club (first pic)
- Homemade carbon steel machete with teak woos handle (second pic)

Oh, and I'm actually 14 this year, and am a fairly well known member of the community (well, to the older veteran members such as Kiteman at least, I don't really shine that much this year) and am a big I'bles freak so I think I'll be a good actor for the movie =P (I am rather tall for my age though, so I might not look like I'm 14 to some people. Heck I passed myself as 17 lots of times).

Good for you because you have already your own instructables that are right to be used for this movie. But if we are going to make this movie as family-oriented film we will avoid showing "violence" and "blood." We will choose from your instructables based on a certain situation.

Camisado (author)theseventhsage2009-08-23

Violence and blood are overrated. I mean, we aren't gonna make it as bloody as Grand Theft Auto 4, but the occasional self defense maneuvers, such as our character slashing one of his enemies causing a little gash on his cheek or lightly whacking a club on the enemy's head as an act of self defense should be okay. I mean, not ever once has my parents restrain me from watching a movie for the sole reason of it being "bloody", no matter how bloody it might be. Swearing and adult situations are whole different things, but blood is horrendously overrated.

Ok, of course, self-defense is the key word here. We will further talk about it as we write the script.

speaking of tazers, he should have one of the nerf maverick tazer found https://www.instructables.com/id/Nerf-Maverick-air-taser-for-25/

He could probably also make(improve) an airsoft gun.

Good. Besides from weapons, what else can he used from the instructables that are needed to survive? For instance, the boy finds himself in the forest where there are many wild animals as helicopters chase him. Any suggestion?

For instance, the boy finds himself in the forest where there are many wild animals as helicopters chase him.
Well, for winter weather, this would be good for when he's trying to hide, Quinzee.
If it's pretty much any other season weather, a simple leaf and twig tent should suffice.
The problem is. We don't know where he is, Itally, Japan, China, America, Canada, The UK, ect.

for storing needles...... cut the end of a hollow cotton bud, after removing the wool -insert the needles- and use the remains of cotton wool from the end you've cut off to pack the end off. Another use for cotton buds...coat them in vasaline and store in a poly bag. they're great fire lighters. You can also use these for cleaning a wound. A drinking straw can also be used for needles. good way of collating different ideas guys keep up the good work....mavmck13

The characters' names should be realistic. I can't give examples since most movies that go international usually has an American name for the main character, and I'm not American so I'm not used to American surnames. Anyway, the first scenes should be like: first scene shows the life of the main character, second scene shows the MC (main character) stumbling on some weird plot to assassinate a fictional U.S president, because he sneaked into some place (with his friends) which he didn't know was the meeting place of some global, organised terrorist group which aims for the destruction of World peace etc and listened to their meeting. third scene shows the MC and his friends getting caught while they were trying to sneak back out over the barbed wire fence and they argue over who's fault it was they got caught etc. fourth scene depicts them trying to escape using their ingenuity in lock picking before they face the firing squad (they are considered a threat to their plans since they were witnesses). 5th scene shows them getting to the police, police won't believe them, tried their parents, not them either. 6th scene shows discussion among them to just leave it be or do something. They decide to do something so they get more of their friends to help them and give them the SITREP. 7th scene shows them gathering intelligence documents, knocking out guards with improvised weaponry, like slingshots, and capturing one of the higher ranking personnel and interrogating him with severe pain from a taser made from a disposable camera and using the infamous "how to know if someone's lying" instructables. They get their info. 8th scene shows them planning to foil the assassination attempt based on the information gehtered. 9th scene shows them building a powerful air-powered cannon to propel bombs at the assassins; that foils their plans (for now) and they execute the backup plan. 10th scene shows alarms going off at instructables resistance HQ and the anti-assassination plans are taken and the whole operation is compromised. 11th scene shows i'blers using the Poly-alphabetic cipher machine to send messages over their network to prevent further compromise of their plans. 12th scene shows several important resistance members compromised and kidnapped due to their level of knowledge of the resistance's other plans... 13th scene shows the high-level of priority given to rescuing the kidnapped members. Lock picks are prepared, skewer guns are cocked, knives are sharpened, and spud guns are fueled and ready to fire! As if there was gonna be a war soon. 14th scene shows resistance scouts observing the perimeter of the target area with binoculars, and preparations are made to infiltrate the target area. 15th scene shows that I'bler resistance infiltration teams have successfully infiltrated the area and have freed the other members. 16th scene shows that the terrorist organization has actually set a trap in the area, and it was sprung. Instructables members sustained a few casualties. Fortunately, there were no dead and only wounded since they were wearing chain mail at the time and the bullets were small because the terrorist faction was focused on making bombs, so they had to be thrifty about their bullets.

This is too long, just tell me your e-mail and I'll send the rest over to you. For the meanwhile, improve on the small details of the storyline.

thanks for your amazing suggestions.. with lived links :-')
send me your complete story..

Select as Best AnswerUndo Best Answer

NOTE: knives will only be used exclusively for aesthetics and destroying barriers (not human ones). Skewer guns only fire in low-power mode. Skewers have blunt tips with a tiny tiny tip on it tipped with something found on a tranquilizer dart. Bombs will only be used on structures, doors, and vehicles away from people. The blood is actually ketchup (as in someone gets hit by a weak bullet which gets stopped by chain mail, coincidentally there was a ketchup packet where the bullet hit so the guy will complain, "THAT'S MY MCDONALDS KETCHUP!!!"), so there's no real blood, just complaints about that single packet of ketchup. Now how do we explode a ketchup packet? Otherwise, leave out the wounded people part, just them being driven out. Spud guns only knock out people. Windows are too expensive to break (for me that is). I don't know where to find an abandoned building for the terrorist faction leaders to meet in, but maybe you can borrow a room with nothing in it, not even windows, you know, just plain concrete and a door away from view of the camera. Then put a table, chairs, and a lamp (as if) hanging from the ceiling and get some airsoft guns for the guards. Put some crates in there too for a place to hide when the MC is listening to the meeting.

This is the only story I can think of that I can put so many DIY projects and homemade stuffs.

Oh, and I'll just add to my storyline that when the I'blers started coming together, a new faction called "The Resistance" emerged. Please do change the faction name of the Resistance and give one for the terrorist group. I'm really stuck to using the faction name "Resistance" when I draw up good vs. bad.

Heh heh, I like the movie idea, but I think you should reenvision this as a superhero movie, staring Instructiman and his sidekick Robot, Manpage.

Instructiman's costume consists of an orange t-shirt, a solar-powered, conductive-thread impregnated, Arduino-driven smart vest, dual paracord survival bracelets, many-pocketed cargo pants/shorts, which are held up by a paracord rescue belt with a steampunk etched buckle, and tire tread sandals.  He sports a multi-tool, a Swiss Army Knife, and a survival kit.  Though he is curiously strong, InstructiMan's only superpowers are his intellect and engineering acumen.  He has a weakness for microwave cakes, and for mints, particularly those that come in a tin.

Instructiman lives aboard a biodeisel/sail powered yacht that he salvaged, called the Riri Purpose II.  From this command center, he patrols the seaboard of a wasteful post-industrial society that lost its manufacturing base, and subsequently become isolated from the rest of the world due to natural disaster.  The people of this land are terrorized by a marauding band of miscreants called the Wastoids.  When he's on land, Instructiman travels via a monster-wheeled electric bike as he rights wrongs, saves lives, and above all, educates.  :)

Number One (#1): Detail of the Story...

Scene One

On a bright sunny day, there are children running to and fro in the playground.  At the very same time, in an old building, nearby the playground, a group of gangster or terrorist is installing bombs.  At another building, group of hackers (twenty in all), led by big brothers (mafia and yakuza) all wearing black tuxedos with sunglasses, are cyberterrorizing all the U.S.A. banks.  At the whitehouse, the president is talking to world leaders.

You got it right!  That's the point.  Exciting, isn't it?  One of the questions that will run at the back of readers/audiences' mind is "how can a playful, innocent kid can solve such tremendous problems?" The movie began with a "bang" and it will end with a "big bang," explosive in suspense!

I meant that it sounds like something fresh out of the first issue of Superman or something.  There's just too much action, and at the rate you are going, you will run out of enemies he has to defeat if you make a sequel.

there's no copycat, the idea is original though, of course, you may mean it is too "heroic" and that's right.  the background music for this movie is entitled "hero" by skillet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuyupBmHfVQ

that's what we need, "too much action."

as to the sequel, i have no problem with that, i can make more exciting story than this one with the help of instructables community.
