Hey guys,

Just wanted to update everyone as to what is going on with finalist selection and announcing winners.

You guys have been so patient in this process, and we are so proud of every project the Instructables.com community has shared using their Intel IoT Edison development kit.

The Intel Team is still reviewing projects and code, and will hopefully have their ultimate finalist selection done soon. It has been so hard choosing projects to be considered for the awards as they are all so wonderful!

Again, thanks for your patience, and feel free to reach out to intel@instructables.com if you have additional questions.

Hey guys!

I am so excited to finally set launch dates for the Intel IoT Contest!!! We have a few more packages waiting to be received by Instructables Authors, but then we are good to go. To have your project considered for some of the AMAZING PRIZES just publish your Instructable that includes an Intel Edison between 8/31 and 10/26 and add it to the Intel IoT Invitational Contest Page.

With all of our logistics and shipping pretty much wrapped, we are finally getting to review all the project ideas from people who already have Edisons and Galileos submit - you will soon get an email from myself, or Penolopy Bulnick (who is coming back to Instructables to help with future giveaways like this!), approving your idea.

I have to say, I am so proud to be apart of such a wonderful community that has been understanding of our delays, and collaborative in helping one another troubleshoot their projects. I can't wait to see what everyone is going to make :)

Beaming!

Here at Instructables, we’re so excited to have a continued partnership with the Intel® IoT Developer Program to celebrate the bright ideas that the Instructables.com community has come up with for the Intel® Edison platform. We’ve been sharing some of the best IoT stories on our site, and are astounded by the growth and creativity blossoming from the Intel Edison Ecosystem.

To further encourage great IoT projects being shared to Instructables, we are offering even more Intel® Edison Boards and Intel® IoT Developer Kits to you! We believe in your awesome creative potential, and your devotion to share what you make and learn with other makers and tinkerers. Furthermore, we are so excited to announce the Intel® IoT Invitational!  Intel IoT Projects published from June 8 - August 7, 2015 will be considered to win a Canon 7D mk ii, a Sony Action Cam, an Oscillisoscope, a Sparkfun Giftcard, a Shapeways Giftcard, and More!!

WE ARE SEEDING THE INSTRUCTABLES COMMUNITY 300 INTEL® EDISON BOARDS and SPECIALTY INTEL® IoT DEVELOPMENT KITS.

We want to hear what you want to make with the Intel Edison Board. If we like your idea, we will send you a kit! Keep in mind, the kits we are creating during this Invitational differ from the commercially available Grove Starter Kits. It will likely take additional components and ingenuity to make great IoT projects for the Intel IoT Invitational.

These are the kits and bundles we are making:

Home Automation Kit
This kit is designed with home automation and safety in mind. There are 9 sensors in the kit that can detect things like moisture, temperature, flames and gases. There’s also a speaker to sound alerts and a relay to turn something on or off. This kit could easily be extended with additional sensors for the ultimate home automation or safety sensor array.

Included in this kit:
Grove Air quality sensor
Grove Encoder
Grove Flame Sensor
Grove Gas Sensor(MQ2)
Grove Infrared Temperature Sensor
Grove Moisture Sensor
Grove SPDT Relay(30A)
Grove Speaker

Environmental & Agriculture
This kit is designed with agriculture in mind.  The 7 sensors in this kit can help you determine light, UV and dust in the environment and based on that information one could rinse a plant off with the water pump and/or water the plant and not waste any water because a flow sensor is included. There is an LED bar for visual output and a dry reed relay to turn things on and off.

Included in this Kit:
6V Mini Water Pump
G14 Water Flow Sensor
Grove Digital Light Sensor
Grove Dry-Reed Relay
Grove Dust Sensor
Grove Gas Sensor(MQ5)
Grove LED Bar
Grove Moisture Sensor
Grove UV Sensor
Grove Water Sensor

Transportation and Safety
This kit is designed with vehicle safety in mind. These 6 sensors can help you keep from getting lost, tell you if you have pulled forward far enough in the garage and even keep your garage from accidentally closing on you. In addition there is an alcohol sensor to determine if you have had too much fun.

Included in this Kit:
Grove Alcohol Sensor
Grove GPS
Grove I2C Touch Sensor
Grove Infrared Reflective Sensor
Grove IR Distance Interrupter
Grove PIR Motion Sensor

Robotics
Create the next robot overlord or at the very least a cool vehicle. This kit has 2 motor drivers and 4 planet geared motors—you supply a chassis.  There are also a few items to determine distance and track a line.  This kit will likely require the most additional items from the maker, but it also provides some useful pieces to get started exploring robotics. Have other ideas—maybe a quad-copter we are eager to see what you create!

Included in this Kit:
Grove 3-Axis Digital Compass
Grove Hall Sensor
Grove I2C Motor Driver
Grove IR Distance Interrupter
Grove Line Finder
Grove MOSFET
Grove Nunchuck
Grove Single Axis Analog Gyro
Grove Thumb Joystick
Grove Voltage Divider
Planet Geared Motor F280

By no means are you limited to just using the parts in these kits, they are just meant to help you get started. Add more sensors, components, and hardware to make the IoT machines of your dreams!

This product offering is limited to 300 people who state their case as to why we should send them a board and development kit.

As posted by Penolopy Bulnick in 'MediaTek LinkIt One Giveaway' forum, Instructables employees are on vacation and won't be back until January 4th. So, I assume that the winners will be announced after January 4th only

Well, yesterday was Thanksgiving in the U.S., and since Intel is an US-based company, it might take some time. Oh, and it's a sponsered contest, so it might take some more time.

That's what they say. :)

If so, can you tell me when you will confirm the winners as I am a bit excited and hyped!

This is what it says in the contest rules:

"Winner Selection. There will be 18 total winner(s) for the Contest. The winner(s) will be selected on November 23, 2015., and Sponsor will announce the winner(s) on November 24, 2015. Each winner will be awarded only the prize(s) for which that winner was selected, as described below."

Though since it is a sponsored contest it might take longer

Finalists were announced yesterday

Well, our iCED project didn't turn out exactly as hoped by the submission deadline (although we did get it submitted just under the wire last night!) - but it's a promising work in progress and to paraphrase Monty Python and the Holy Grail - it's not dead yet! https://www.instructables.com/id/Intel-Edison-Cat-E...

Was the submission deadline pushed back to November 9? Or is this the judging period or something :P

Select as Best AnswerUndo Best Answer

We did push back the submission deadline to the 9th, there was a new version of the installer made available, and lots of people were having technical difficulty completing on time - we wanted people to have the opportunity to trouble shoot if need be. https://software.intel.com/en-us/iot/software/installers

The Intel Invitational launched today! Everyone has until 10/12/15 to post their Instructable using an Intel Edison board and enter it into the contest.

Select as Best AnswerUndo Best Answer

user

Also, for those who were wondering, your entry into the Intel IoT Invitation does have to match your proposal. If you've decided to make something different with your Intel Edison board, you need to submit a new proposal to be approved before you can enter the contest.

Hi Audrey

Here is an update:

Mine got cleared today from customs. As usual, dealing with customs makes one crazy... Luckily Fedex does it for you.

Fedex needed me to fill a KYC form and attach multiple ID proofs. I was also the cause of a small delay due to a short trip and not willing to share my private information such as Bank statements or Telephone bill withd Fedex/Customs. In the end I just sent my PAN Card ID and Passport Copy and they got it released from customs.

Even after X-Ray scans, I wonder if all that delay was really necessary on their (Customs) part for harmless Kits like this - don't they trust their citizens?

The Kit take 1-2 days more to reach me.

In Noida, North India where I was living before, getting things cleared was much faster.

I relocated to my hometown. Here down the south, things are a bit more complicated, corrupt and slow - hence the delay.

Hope I can still make it in time for the event.

I should have posted this earlier:

For all Indian participants here, please keep these forms ready - filled, signed with ID and Address proof attached:

KYC Form - http://images.fedex.com/downloads/downloadcenter/in/know-your-customer.pdf

Authorisation Letter - http://images.fedex.com/downloads/downloadcenter/in/authorization-letter.pdf

Then email the forms to the email address mentioned in the Fedex KYC Intimation Courier that you may receive.

Good Luck and Success to Everyone!

Best Regards

Robert Nediyakalaparambil

Apparently you had a good experience. I'm based out of Noida and finally got the tracking number today. Turns out Fedex Delhi has had my package since Aug 13th, and on Aug 15th for some reason not known to me shows this message:

Delivery exception NEW DELHI IN Business closed - No delivery attempt

Did not receive any call/sms from their side regarding this from them till now! 1 whole month!! -_-

Select as Best AnswerUndo Best Answer

user
BitCubateX (author)rbanga2015-09-06

Call their Delhi Number and give them the tracking number and request them to kindly fix the issue + ask them for the reason for delay. Also ask for your local franchise / agent numbers.

You can also enable sms via tracking page. While I was in Noida (Sect34) I was buying everything off the net, even local groceries with rare problems - except for items that are sent w/o tracking / by post or US postal and EMS - those items mysteriously disappear, some of which were review units for which my reputation would go down.

Fedex and UPS are okay depending upon the delivery franchise. Check your tracking and look if you see something like this after the Business Closed status:

Clearance delay - Import.

Goods are subject to regulatory review.

I receive parcels from Fedex almost every month(Mumbai). Had to fill the form only once for the first time. Once filled it is valid for 6 years!
And it is same for all the regions in India.

Never had to send a KYC before. Nice to know thanks. But whats the point of KYC if we live at a valid address, if they could just lookup names and addresses, it should be on the govt systems etc and obviously genuine.

you got your kit, be happy... the customs people are doing their duty and not here down the south "things are a bit more complicated, corrupt and slow" as you mentioned. Did they ask you for any customs duty or any money to clear the kit ? they simply wanted some proof that these are genuine. Do not fling mud on your own face by disgracing your country
