Is it possible to make a ps2/ps3 controller into a remote control for an rc car? Answered

I have a Mini-Z MR03. This is a very sofisticated rc car and has a very sesitive controller. I was turning one of my console controllers into a radio for this car. Problem is I have no clue as to how to utilize the modules in the console controller to work with the car properly. I now wonder if it ais actually possible to do.

No and yes. I presume that by the pictures you've posted with your query the question is rather whether or not the innards of the Kyosho Perfex will fit into the Dual-Shock case of the PS3? In short, no, not without some serious modding of the circuit board. Which is an advanced task even for a seasoned expert.

As for the yes portion, I believe that an original Xbox controller would give you more space to work with. If you recall, it's the one that looks like a whale! Ha! You would need that space 'cuz there's more than just one board inside of these. A main board and two small daughter boards.

I'm not 100% sure on the type of spring loaded knob the steering and throttle have but then you'd definitely have to mod those to reach and fit in place where the D-pad, triggers or thumbsticks on the desired case are. I guess then you'd have something that very much resembles a Futaba or Kyosho plane/heli controller. In all, it would take some serious modding to accomplish it.

You'll need a number of things to get that working.
1) what is the cars RC frequency/channel
2) what the communication protocol is
3) find a suitable interface between the controller and radio (arduino, for example) and get it to send out the appropriate signals to the radio which sends it to the car.I think the ps2 is actually usb, but I'm not sure.
