Is this correct? 280 LEDs at 24mA each will consume 6.72 amps total? Answered

 I am trying to power 280 LEDs with a 12 volt power supply. The specs are as follows:

Green - 3.2-3.4v 24mA max (x100)
Blue - 3.0-3.4v 24mA max (x100)
Yellow - 1.8-2.2v 24mA max (x20)
Orange - 1.8-2.2v 24mA max (x20)
Red - 1.8-2.2v 24mA max (x20)
Purple/UV - 3.0-3.4v 24mA max (x20)

Are my calculations correct in that this will consume 6.72 amps?

What would be the best solution for powering this many LEDs? I would like to keep the setup as simple and efficient as possible.

Not really. You are correct that if all of them have 24mA going through them the sum of each of the currents is that, but if you've got the same 24mA going through e.g. a series of 4, your total requirement is less. If you work on Watts, you can get better theoreticals (24mA):

 A @ 12V1.76

Any series driven LEDs will use the same current, so, if there are 4 LEDs in series, they will consume  24mA, not 4x24mA=96mA.

All parallel LEDS ARE additive in current, unlike series connected LEDs

Series L:EDs are additive in voltage.

I reckon you can manage witth 2 Amps.
Taking your list, and making a reasonable guess.
30 strings of 3 @24mA
30 strings of 3 @24mA
5 strings of 4
5 strings of 4
5 strings of 4
7 strings of  3
