I've made a hot wire foam cutter, but it is always burnig transformers. what should I do to avoid that? Answered

can you give a schematic for your build? Are you running the wire straight off the transformer? What if any circuits do you have between the transformer and the wire that help limit the amount of current to the wire?

i follow this instructable:

but I've used nichrome wire from a heater

Your problem is the wire your using. The wire draws way more current then what your transformers can support. Foll ow the intructable and use a guitar string.

You should design it with a view to how much power the wire will draw from the transformer.

That starts with knowing the resistance of your "hot wire".
