K'nex M4 Carbine Answered

About time I made an M4 carbine. The farthest shooting/accurate and sturdiest gun i've made to date mostly due to the muzzle loading. WHAT!!! NO MAGAZINE!!! yep, it was abandoned due to horrible range and often jams. It's more of a sniper than an assault rifle and is extremely accurate with a grey rod + grey connector. It uses a modded dsmans barrel for maximum accuracy and distance, accuracy due to the barrel going through the forgrip. I also added a 4-railed foregrip for attachments such as virtical foregrip (shown in pic), bipod, dot scope, lights/lasers, or anything that can attach. Tell me what you guys think.

He had no right to start on you like that, but regrettably he's correct. It wouldn't matte if you didn't show them off as much.

soz... too much jamming. If you take a look at combatknex's up there, it's almost a guarantee that his will jam. It has to shoot blue rods through a barrel about 5-10 times the length of a blue rod, and unless the barrel is PERFECTLY straight (dsman is the only on coming close the perfect straight, dd-27) the bullet will hit the sides and jam up sooo quick. That's why I made a single shot grey rod type design.

That's why you make one like mine where you only have so much real barrel and the rest fake barrel.

Trauts (author)TheDunkis2008-11-01

That's just the thing, the bullet would have to travel through so much fake barrel, like in my g36c, but magnified, it would twirl and hit the walls before it left the barrel. And the m4 has a fairly long barrel.

Lol most assault rifles do have long barrels. And this is the exact reason why I never liked the idea of an M16 being made. Hopefully we don't have a problem like this on the XM8 but I'm pretty sure we could make the whole front end of the gun pretty hallow like the AK-74. Oh yeah I just remembered do you have any idea for a grenade launcher for the XM8? my best idea would be a mini slinger for D splodies.

Trauts (author)TheDunkis2008-11-01

that would be my idea for a g-nade launcher as well. And the barrel shouldn't be a problem with the XM8, because it has lots of body surrounding it, meaning we can make a wider barel without sacrificing looks.

TheDunkis (author)Trauts2008-11-01

Exactly. I came up with a couple barrel designs with a front grip. The troublesome part about it though is the grip has just barely a curve to it. Enough to notice it but hard to replicate. My idea was a bendies with the yellow dark grey patern. Anyways it would be easier if we just came up with the internals first and built around that for me anyways. What do you think we should do for the cocking mech? We're going to need a strong lever mechanism to push back the firing pin the whole distance if possible. I'm also thinking just for cool effects we should make the shell ejection port open up while cocking. Sorry if I'm revealing too many features about the gun but if anything we might as well hype people about it.

Trauts (author)TheDunkis2008-11-01

lol yeah. And i've learned the hard way to ALWAYS build the looks around the mechanism, because you end up just remaking all of it due to the mechanism not fitting in. And can we continue this in like a private location because we will have to start take pics in a while and it just won't work with everyone seeing the build progress. And for the cocking mech were you thinking of TheJamalam type thing where you pull it back on the side?

well I'm still wrapped up with the knexpert tournament. First I want to make sure we have the basic design ready as I'll probably destroy my AP as predictable defeat has yet to come but I don't want to rush into the XM8. I should be posting the new pistol tomorrow and then I'll probably start. Well have you see a video of the XM8? The charging handle is up above under the carrying handle. This means we'll probably need to make some sort of structure slide back into the back of the gun over the firing pin sliding it into place and then sliding back. I'm not sure if we could make something strong enough. We'll need to make some sort of extra support so that the charging handle structure doesn't bend and break under the force.

Yeah that's going to be really tough.

TheDunkis (author)Trauts2008-11-01

Uh my only idea at the moment is making the whole charging handle part like 3 layered. We could probably add to the sliding part on the pin to include a support rail like just making a part under the main barrel for a support rod to slip into or something and then the sliding part might be more stable. It's kind of hard to describe in words.
