K'nex Sniper thoughts? Answered

I'm drawing up some mental plans for a Sniper rifle. I posted some non-gun k'nex projects but they were never as popular as weaponry. I know there's a tonne of K'nex snipers out there already, but most of them underneath the body are just a basic gun with a blue rod mag, and a lot of the time the mag isn't actually removable.

Of course there's nothing wrong with this, I myself have made guns with this setup. However, for my new Sniper, I want a removable mag with lesser-used ammo. I was thinking either orange-connector+grey connector ammo or yellow rods. Basically I wanted to see what the community wants the most, aside from Oodammo, because that's a tad awkward!

Also any suggestions as to what else I should add to my Sniper? I was thinking:
Removable Mag, breach loading single shot chamber, rails (like ironman's), detachable scope and Bipod, rear monopod, true trigger (of course), pin guides and maybe a section where a small pistol can fit, probably TheDunkis' flat pistol or r3con's (spelling?) mod for it.
Oh and maybe a heartbeat sensor for all the MW2 fans out there XD

my dream sniper is a sniper with removable mag bolt action pin guide bipod (foldable) epic looking scope grenade launcher and a stock that can store ammo (yellow rods)

If I were you I'd try and perfect the shell system. When applied properly, I'm sure that you'd be able to decrease friction inside the mag, while maintaining pieces. Bolt action seems the way to go with snipers if you are looking for range and reliability, and this decreases chamber friction. Give it a pin guide as well. Your next priority should be comfort - the best shots are often relaxed ones. I'd also give it some weight so that you don't shake around as much. Ergonomics are next - give it a good scope that you can actually use, and perhaps a good bipod. Next add rails and certain attachments. Finally I'd tidy it all up while maintaining its features' working ability.

This is exactly how I make my guns. Function, then form. :)

Why not try to build the PTRS-41

Ah I loved that gun in Call of Duty 5 :') But this isn't a replica, I just thought I'd use the L96 as a rough shape guideline. Also the PTRS-41 was in a Call of Duty game, so I wouldn't build it anyway seeing as CoD guns get overdone. I know the L96 is in black ops now but this forum was posted before the game's release, therefore it doesn't really count xD

Back off, the L96 project is mine.

Joking, of course, but I do intend to make one of these as my latest bolt action.

Black Ops is consuming my time. Maybe K'nex will fit in after Christmas. Maybe.

Well I'm not making a replica so that field will be open, the L96 happens to be a fairly easy and generic shape to work with, of course the design will be altered!

Don't make a sniper. The way you are going the gun is just gonna look like a poser rifle.

I think it would be cool to see a gun fire finned ammo from a magazine. Maybe you should try that.

Maybe, I'll have a go. As for the sniper rifle, I want a gun that is a balance of functionality and looks, of course I will give people the option to not add a barrel, and I'll probably make it compatible with the TR18's stock so it can be made into an assault rifle

I'd use https://www.instructables.com/id/Slamfire-tiny-oodammo-pistol/ for the pistol; it's tiny, uses oodammo, and is much more powerful than something that size should be.

No for the pistol I'm definitely using TheDunkis' because it's completely flat, so the gun can be narrow and still accommodate it. Flat meaning it has completely smooth sides.

I've been working on a new sniper design, I gave the ol' L96 design a go for the mech I designed and built something that looked awsome except for the barrel, it was either too thick or bent, oh well good luck.

Whatever you do, I'd make it bolt action. See if you can do a first and make a rotating bolt too. It'll be more for style overall seeing how sniper rifles aren't practical with K'nex in any other form except slingshots.

Lowney (author)TheDunkis2010-11-01

Hm yeah, it would have always been for looks, I just wanted a great balance between performance and style. As for bolt action, I really wanted to do that, but I have only got like 10 y connectors and last time I attempted a bolt action it had a very flimsy barrel because I lacked these fundamental pieces. I've tried to compensate by doing a Red Impact/NAR style ram which will increase the power, as well as make cocking the bolt MUCH easier.
However, I was thinking for my next project about a bolt action, but a traditional hopper fed one (I just like hopper fed guns more than mag guns for whatever reason, but I felt that a magazine would be better for this forum's sniper) . I'll try the twisting handle that you suggested.
Also I ought to ask permission for use of the flat gun as an attachment, it seemed like a good pistol to use because it's...well flat lol (if I ever did choose to do this)

What range are you thinking about having? Unless it's like 300 feet, it should be a replica. An M40A5 would be pretty cool.

Select as Best AnswerUndo Best Answer

user
Lowney (author)rec0n2010-11-01

300 feet isn't possible with a mag-fed gun, only really with slingshots.

Select as Best AnswerUndo Best Answer

user
Lowney (author)2010-10-31

Oh and it's going to have a firing pin like Red Impacts, which is incredibly similar to the NAR's (A.K.A untangle), so the range will be above average for a non-bolt action sniper
