Knit or knit/purl? Answered

I realize that this is a stupid question but here we go. I have my 16 rows of k1 p1 and then I did a row of knit stitches and I followed teh directions, but i'm ending up with the bumpy knit stitch, like my first scarf, not the ones in your picture. I ripped it out back down to row 16, but I've read the instructions 20 times and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Thanks

The first row of knit stitches may appear bumpy as you transition from ribbing to stockinette, however if the *next* row doesn't look like it matches up how it should, you may be purling instead of knitting. Does the inside look like it should? Post a photo and I'll be able to help more.
