Lego Mindstorms Cubestormer solves Rubiks Cube in under 12 seconds Answered

Picture of

"The Worlds Fastest Lego Mindstorms RCX Speedcubing Robot. Built entirely from lego elements now scanning and solving any 3x3x3 Rubik's cube combination in under 12 seconds."

Humans are still faster, but this is one impressive build.

Just don't give that thing legs or it will solve your face.

I believe that the Lego vs. K'nex debate has just been resolved.

The cubestormer is certainly a major feat of engineering and programming.  Legos is no a child's toy that used to be, it has since gained "street cred" among engineers and tinkerers.

I built a "tilted twister" but I didn't have a colour sensor so couldn't get it to scan correctly. :(

Up until now, I thought this one was impressive.  Just goes to show what I rube I am! (Pun intended.)

Interesting that there's more than one of these things - perhaps many more (especially if there was a competition somewhere)!

As a gadget, it's almost entirely pointless to own (or even to reproduce) though. Its real value lies in having designed (and constructed) it the first time. Quite the opposite of most(?) instructables.

Good grief...

"Humans are still faster"

Not many.  And not by much.

No kidding.

Despite my fondness for logic puzzles, I have yet to spend the time to solve a Rubik's cube.

Logic puzzles?  You might actually enjoy the Wikipedia article on Rubik's group theory.

more cameras giveing it a view of all sides of the cube might make it faster by getting rid of the time it turns the cube to check it.

I had a rubiks as a child, I used a brute force approach to a solution, hammer time, reassemble correctly.

it's not that hard to disassemble by hand.

it was humor, brute force/hammer, get it?

Heheh, I'm one of the few that would get that sort of XKCDian response. I liked it.

You should have peeled the centre-stickers off and used a screwdriver.

OMG.. I need one.
just for the moments when you feel like having all your cubes solved.

Could come in handy if you had a rubics-cube-rental store and wanted to "rewind" all the cubes quickly.

AWESOME...
thanx for sharing.
