Do you want something useful (being able to possibly communicate with someone) or a language that nobody around there speaks, but would be fun to use?

No, it was British, not American.

Ah, it was a guide to Britain for Americans, including "translations" of various sayings, so I read it as a UK/US phrasebook.

Ah, I was thinking it would be the other way around.

Ah, I went with practicality - #1 Son is going to Paris in October (school trip), so I've asked for the French phrasebook, since even French will have changed since I last went there.

Congrats to all. My only "travels", mostly within the states with a run or three to Canada, have ended in, or included much tragedy or at very least, a lot of inconvenience. *sigh* I just don't "travel well" ...

I think I'll get a French phrase book and then I can catch Eurostar and go on another day trip to Paris in October and perhaps people might understand me!
