Make instructables links open in a new tab/window Answered

Does anyone else find it really annoying that instructables external links don't open in a new window ? I keep losing the original instructables page when I close the linked page, forgetting that it didn't open a new tab.

Maybe it's just my computer !

.   It's not just you. Most web pages work that way.
.  Ctrl-click works for me when using Firefox. Didn't try it in any other browsers, but ctrl-click or alt-click should work in most of them.
.   Most browsers have an option to open links in a new window or tab.

I'll try and remember that NachoMahma... (I use firefox) Hope instructables can make the change!

Reconfigure FF:

It's not supposed to work that way. Links should always open in the same "thread" (tab, window, whatever) where they are found. If the end user wants to open the link in a new tab or window, they should use their browser's interface to do that. If you're using Firefox, right-click should give you that option, or as NM said, ctrl-click should do it directly.

I prefer external links to open in a new tab (internals should stay in the same tab). But I suppose if instructables doesn't want to change just for me, they don't have to :P

. heehee . I haven't actually seen a rule that it links are supposed to open in the same window (although, judging by kelseymh's comment, there may well be), but it is definitely customary for it to work that way. HTML has the means to open links in a new window (the target attribute), but everyone expects links to open in the same window unless there is something indicating otherwise. . I just made a Q&D search and can't find how to set FF to open all links in a new window. I would have sworn I've seen that somewhere. That's what happens when you get old. . I did find out that shift-click will open a link in a new Firefox window (in addition to ctrl-click and middle-click opening the link in a new tab). You can also right-click and select Open Link in New Window or Open Link in New Tab

If you have a 3 button mouse, center click the link in firefox should open it in a new tab
