Motor As Input? Answered

I want to use a hobby motor with arduino as input , do I connect it directly or I need some circuits?
Thanx In Advance!

The motor voltage will be proportional to shaft speed.

And that becomes the precursor for a Tachometer.

You can BUT it will produce a rather rough DC output where te voltage is dependent on the speed of the motor.

You can therefore input this changing voltage to the analogue input to measure how fast the motor is turning.

You should not exceed the input voltage for the device your using and may need to look at the data sheet to see what the maximum voltage is and compare this to what your motor can provide.

You can't attach it to a digital input that expects an on or off signal.

Putting a zener diode in series to protect the arduino is a good plan to stop any overvoltage.
