My 60 GB IPod works but will not turn off. Any ideas for a remedy? Answered

The IPod functions normally except for it not turning off when it's charged. I can leave it plugged in and it works or when I take it on the go my only option is to run it dead. It just can't be turned off I'm not sure what else to say.

Which model do you have? Obviously you don't have a shuffle, because you mentioned it had a screen, but the itouch doesn't normally turn off, it goes to sleep. If it is an itouch, you would need to either consider turning it off (hold the sleep button until you get a sign that says "slide to power off") or resetting it.

I hate to sound like a doof, but what have you tried to turn it off? The standard 'hold play until it dies' function doesn't work?

I suggest try that, then try a software 'recover' from in itunes, if that doesn't solve it, then try a hardware reset, usually invovling holding menu centre and play or menu centre and menu for 5 seconds. The apple troubleshooting website shows how exactly each model gets reset to factory. *back up your shiz before this operation or you will be without music*

Troubleshooting: Does the screen ever turn off? if not it might be the thumb wheel has goop in/on it and it thinks your finger is always on it - and thus never goes to sleep or turns off.
