My computer is running at 60% CPU sitting on idle. Help!!! Answered

My windows vista laptop is running at about 60% cpu on idle. If I move the mouse fast it goes up realy high 80%. When I go on internet it fulls up and frezes. How do I tell what programs are running to block it up. And how do I clear it out?

Do you have any anti-virus software which may be "busy" scanning the entire machine?

The task manager will tell you whats going on. Call it up by hitting Ctrl, Alt. Del and then if a menu pops up click on task manager. Once that is up you can go to the processes tab and sort by CPU usage and it will tell you what is using up all your resources. You can click on the item and tell it to end task.

You may have to start in safe mode to do the following.

Chances are good you have a maleware program or infection. You should download Malewarebytes and run it. It is a free program.
Do a full scan. Remove all the problems that it finds. If this doesn't fix the problem then you need to weed stuff out of the startup. That's a little more complicated. Do this first and if it doesn't work and we can get into the other stuff.
