Need help building an rgb led music sync.? Answered

I would like to start a project building an LED wall.  I would like the LEDs to change color to the frequency.  I was wondering if this was possible or not, and if it is how could I build a circuit to make the LEDs to change color.  I was thinking it could be something like a light organ but instead of there being 1 frequency for one color of lights could it be possible to get the three different frequencies to make the LEDs change different colors.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

You would probably be better off using DMX 512... you can get software to control it with a USB-DMX adapter, and you could probably do something close to what you are looking for. The only problem with doing DMX is that it isn't cheap. You could look into Chauvet WELL lighting, or possibly LED Splash for the lights.

This can be done using analogue electronics -  http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=frequency+activated+circuit+diagram&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=XxH&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&channel=s&prmd=imvns&source=lnms&tbm=isch&ei=wPPcTqbANcm6hAfv5Zi0Dg&sa=X&oi=mode_link&ct=mode&cd=2&ved=0CCEQ_AUoAQ&biw=1920&bih=940

However I think you would be better off and a lot cheaper if you aim to color wash the wall with LED's from top or bottom. These can then be color controlled by the frequency of the music.

Are you meaning audio frequency response? You're gonna have to get very familiar with programming.
