Painting over white melamine table. Answered

I have a white table painted in melamine. Needs repainting white. Can I just paint over it, or do I have to strip it first? I am a total novice. Many thanks for your replies

there's paint made for painting countertops and shiny surfaces without sanding. I used bin zinsser bullseye 1.2.3. to paint my varnished kitchen cabinets.

If the original paint is still good and not peeling off or turned to powder you can probably recoat it with just a light sanding. Any defects like paint that has peeled or deep scratches will need to be smoothed or they will show thru. The original and new paint have to be compatible also, meaning no acrylic paint over oil base paint.
