Photoshop not using all RAM? Answered

Picture of

G'day, Photoshop CS5 is only using 1.5gb RAM out of 4gb, does anyone know how to get it to use all of the RAM?
I am using windows 7 ultimate 32bit

First, because it is a 32 bit system it is limited to using only 3.6 gig of ram. This is for Windows XP and Windows 7, in fact all Windows systems. A 32 bit system cannot use more than 3.6. I have heard of some people trying to put a patch of sorts to get more than that but I wouldn't count on it.
Next, your Windows system requires a certain amount of memory even if it appears to be doing nothing. So that memory is off limits to a program.
From your screen shot it appears that the program is using all the memory that it is allowed to. (Available RAM ) It is possible that the only way you are going to be able to get more RAM available is to upgrade to a 64 bit version.

It's using as much as it possibly can. If you want it to use more RAM then upgrade to a 64 bit OS and add more RAM to the system.

I think that theres a setting that allows you to set the percentage of memory in photoshop... may be here. Edit < Preferences < Performance ? Bump it up to 90% and open a bunch of big files to see if it makes a difference.

For more detail, look here. http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/optimize-performance-photoshop-cs4-cs5.html#main_Memory_Usage

Best o' luck
