Playstation 3 Info Answered

So yes, my dad has said he will choose the PS3 as the free gift. So as you see im Estatic! I thought I might aswell get some info about the console, from gamers like yourself on instrutables. Just answer the questions: What is the best game to get on a PS3? Any regrets on buying it? ( e.g would of chose a different console, not worth it) Is it backwards compatible with other PS2 games ( if not is there a way to make it?) ? ( Im getting the 40gig - the only model available ) Which console do you think is going to win the next gen war? ( xbox has put up a good battle but the PS3 is picking up speed fast!) List of ps3 Must haves!!!? please. - Baron

Don't forget Uncharted: Drake's Fortune! Other really good games are Resistance: Fall of Man, Call of Duty 4, Heavenly Sword, R&C;, Assassin's Creed, GH III, Rock Band and Metal Gear Solid 4 (coming soon).

I haven't played it, but it's getting really high reviews, so it's pretty safe to say that you'll like it (especially if you're a fan of GTA in the first place).

Although I myself do not have a Playstation 3, I have a Wii, my friend a Playstation 3, I would recommend: *Resistance: Fall of Man (reason: Great online play) *Assassins Creed (reason: Great plot) *Guitar Hero 3: Legends Of Rock (reason: I have it on wii, although it cost £70 it is a GREAT Game, a must have!) Thats all I can think of right now, hope it helps ~@:Disaster:@~

ya those are so far the best games out. i believe ratchet and clank is out for ps3 too so that would be great. I live in a dorm and on our floor we have every system out there between us floor of geeks and nerds. I have to say the Wii brings people together like no other system (game cubes supersmash and N64's bajo kazooe take second). If you are going with game play and would like to have fun with lot of friends i would go with Wii (besides Brawl is coming out and thats a must have no matter what) plus its cheaper :)

Banjo Kazooie has no multiplayer xD Unless you mean Banjo Tooie, which has that egg shooter multiplayer mode.

I highly recommend Heavenly Sword. My favorite so far! Guitar Hero 3 is also very good. :) And it's nice to be able to download older games as well. Get Wild Arms!

Oh, and also - no regrets getting it - my boyfriend loves it! I just have to wait it out for a while until games I like come out - I hate shooters. I had planned on getting a Wii first, but PS3 isn't bad. :D And the newer ones aren't backwards compatible as far as I know. They dropped the price because they took that feature out.

Meh. Not very many good games, the controller sucks, my hands always slide off it, it's so damn small. (unless you have a PS2 and are used to it. I got an Xbox 360 Elite for Christmas, and it's friggin' awesome, just like I thought it would be (I didn't know I was gonna get it of course). Unless you're a Sony fanboy, and won't be able to live without the few PS3 exclusive titles (less and less every day) get an Xbox 360. As for games, I'd go with what Disaster said, Ratchet and Clank was big too, I played it but it didn't seem that great, it was repepetitive, but it seemed kinda fun, probably because it was funny and colourful :D

By the way, what do you mean by free gift? One of those pyramid scheme things? If it is, I wouldn't get your hopes up xD.

I've heard a lot of developers talking about the 360 and how easy it is to develop for (some are saying it's the easiest system they've ever developed for).

Backwards Compatibility: (from Wikipedia PS3 page

"Like the South Korean and Europe models, the North American 80 GB model also excludes the PlayStation 2 "Emotion Engine" CPU chip.

(Emotion Engine chip enables hardware emulation of PS2 hardware, instead of software emulation which requires an update for every game you play)

However, it still keeps the "Graphics Synthesizer" GPU. Due to emulating of the "Emotion Engine", the level of compatibility was reduced (see Removal of hardware support for more details).

(this means it uses software emulation now so you'll need to get a fix for each PS2 game you want to play on your PS3. This is the same as the Xbox 360, but on the 360 you can download the files on your PC and burn them to a CD if you don't have high-speed to download it directly to your console. You might be able to do this with the PS3 too)

"The 40 GB... model has two USB ports instead of the four USB ports on other models, and does not include a multi memory card port, SACD support, ...or any backwards compatibility with PlayStation 2 titles. This was due to the removal of "Graphics Synthesizer" GPU, which stripped the unit of all PlayStation 2 based hardware."

So let's put this together here:

North American 80 GB PS3 - you'll have to download a fix for each game you play.

40 GB version - zero backwards compatibility

As for who is going to win in this generation of consoles, so far I would DEFINITELY say the Xbox 360, it is far cheaper (with a few different bundles that have a wide range of prices, too). It has a lot of games, and if you have high-speed internet and the money for Xbox LIVE Gold (Xbox LIVE Silver is free, lets you track your profile and stuff online, so other people can see your acheivements, and you can use IM and stuff while you're playing games), then you can play online, and that's awesome (PS3 online does not have any profile things or anything, you just go into a game with no identity, I think).

The PS3 did pick up speed during the fall, the thing is, the Xbox 360 did too, only moreso (this has been a great year for gaming, if you have an Xbox 360, which is now the only good console), and now the PS3 is losing exclusive titles like crazy (GTA is going on Xbox now, but I heard there's going to be a PS3 version too, but the Xbox 360 version is going to be better). Also, there's going to be no Splinter Cell: Conviction for the PS3, but any versions other than the Xbox/ Xbox 360 (maybe PC, too) have always sucked anyways (including Splinter Cell: Double Agent for the PS3).

No, I just like my Xbox a lot. A fanboy would be someone who likes all Xbox stuff regardless if it sucks or not (think iPods...).
