Put on your beer goggles Answered

My school recently bought a few pairs of "beer goggles" apparently these are goggles that when are put on simulate being drunk! How on earth does this work, "DRUNK BUSTERS Impairment Goggles™ simulate effects of impairment, including reduced alertness, slowed reaction time, confusion, visual distortion, alteration of depth and distance perception, reduction of peripheral vision, poor judgement and decision making, double vision, and lack of muscular coordination. For some people, impairment might result after as little as one drink." I will be going into the gym with my health class to attempt to play basketball tomorrow or monday. But until then I am curious as to how these work. http://www.drunkbusters.com/store/shopexd.asp?id=19

If you need to wear eyeglasses and so does your friend, try trading glasses for a few hours. You might get a similar effect. Brain gets confused trying to adjust to the terrible visual input.

We wore them in health class one day. Amusing to wear, but I would definitely rather be wearing the goggles, than the real thing.

I don't know how they work but i have worn them (at a trade show) and i've had a few drinks in my day. I think that they exaggerated the effect but definitely found them fun to wear for a few minutes!

Did they "impair" your decision making and judgement?

No - just ability to walk in a straight line or grab objects.

From one news story: They get an impression of how alcohol consumption makes them lose control, makes them confused (dazed) and slows their reaction time. Due to the goggles, perception of distances is blurred and the co-ordinat ion of movements impaired. Based on this experience, they learn to understand that alcohol and drug abuse lead to misinterpretations and dangerous misunderstandings.
