Radioshack... not so bad? Answered

I recently went to radioshack, they now have a wider selection, and on most components the price isn't so bad actually. Most items are only a bit more than what you would pay online, yet there is no shipping charge and you get it instantly. I recently bought 2 micro motors for 8 dollars, online I could get 2 for 2 dollars, plus like 5 dollar shipping, it'd cost 7 dollars, but here I got it for 8 instantly. But not everything at radioshack is like that, I'd say only for resistors, capacitors, and LEDs are way overpriced. The rest is actually not so bad

But sir, do you need batteries for that?

They also have parralax uC's apparantly.

They do, I picked up the parallax RFID reader kit and a few project boxes at my local RadioShack last week. Jameco maybe cheaper, but when you need one toggle switch and one AA battery holder what you save on shipping is worth it. Plus sometimes you need to strike while the iron is hot, and it running down to the local RadioShack for some parts is your only option before you lose inspiration. -Joe

before I even try to look at what encoding that might be (ascii and unicode come to mind, but are we in octal?) is that string prefix free and thereby iteratively parse-able, or am I going to have to wade through it with a recursive algorithm

Octal and it should be easy to convert to ASCII, it was done using a ASCII to octal converter for entertainment purposes.. Nothing fancy..

I propose a truce, or else I will be forced to break out the big guns:

THE BIG GUNS
BANG! BANG!

By the way, although the first link was a satirical proposition on par with Jonathan Swift's "A Modest Proposal", I do find the idea of a revamping of English intriguing. It would solve many of the issues that plague human-computer interaction.

Imagine a formalized language, possibly a subclass of "high" english, used to interact with machines:

[*] All words are prefix-free
[*] The language is order free, relying on specifying terms for subject, object, person, tense, etc.
[*] All spelling is based on the IPA
[*] Intonation follows strict structure, based on meaning.

as the "living doll" gap subsides, such a specified sub language would even help humans to keep machines as a separate mental Geshtalt, thereby hastening interactions and lessening any possible "human-too" feelings.

I'm not the first to come up with this idea. In science fiction, both Isaac Asimov and Alan Dean Foster forwarded the idea of a machine oriented sub-language. In reality, Server Query Language is a similar idea with a more mundane application.

sooo... CAN WE PLEASE TALK IN ENGLISH?

Not rain on your parade, tech.... But I'd consider that spamming... You are posting it everywhere, and it doesn't really belong on this topic =P

Don't get me wrong - I thought it was a pretty good story; I just don't think you should be posting it everywhere. =P

Is there any particular reason that you are typing in Morse code?

Good grief - I read all the way through that for such an obvious ending.

you didnt like it? *lower lip trembles

Ah, maybe I'm just a bit fussy in my old age.

is part of it missing?

Well, when in need, they can be a resource sometmies.....I just got the 10 ohm resistor I needed (plus 4 more), for $ 0.99

I like Radioshack for immediate needs, like voltage regulators and other similar components. I was there a few weeks ago, and I was so surprised at how expensive their LEDs were.

I went there for a LED and they are $3.00 for two white ones. They are kind of crazy. LOL
