Rating filter missing Answered

From the Knex section of the site, many members are dissapointed at the loss of the 'rating' filter. Instructable's rating system makes the very best stand out, due to not being based on percentage, and mow they are being shrouded in darkness. Could we please have the rating filter back?

So modifying (and bookmarking) the URL with "&sort=RATING" at the end wasn't good enough?

It's easier just to click the rating button. lol

Actually, I just tried it again, and it didn't work.

You're right. In fact, it's more than just "didn't work." The server is explicitly discarding the sort and returning the default (sort by featured) URL. This is a definite change from the previous behaviour, and it means that my own bookmark no longer works.

Whoa.... who REALLY didn't want the rating feature? It was good, people liked it and used it lots!

Wait - I'm somewhat confused. Isn't that exactly what "popular" is?

Naw. Ratings are ratings. Popularity is the number of views. Something could put a billion tags in it, and not actually be any of those tags, get 5,000 views and be popular, OR it could have 3 tags, but be good and get a lot of 5* ratings, to get to 4*.

...are you sure popularity is view count? I could be way off base, but I totally thought it was a high rating. I don't think tags have anything to do with it though...

Popularity is view count within a relatively short (one week, I think) time period. Rating is the cumulative weighted average of user rating vaues.

Yes definitely, it goes by the views. Eg USB Sea Monkey :80,000 views Gorkem's Sniper Rifle: 74,000 views knex gun: 71,000 views You can check if you like.

I don't think I know what it is at all...

https://www.instructables.com/id/xkcdian-SkiFree-F-key-pendant/ : Not popular, but featured

https://www.instructables.com/id/Bookshelf-Re-purposed-into-Bed/ : Featured and popular

First one has 5X more views AND a higher rating.

No, I asked a question about this little while ago. It is when an instructable jumps to a large number of views in just a few days.

Pretty sure. If you type 'knex' and filter it through popularity, then a crappy block trigger called knex gun has 15,000 views is up there I think. I'll check.

(Since I have seen many Knexers using ratings as a kind of currency ("subscribe to me and I'll rate all your projects 5 stars"), I don't think it is a very accurate or realistic way of making good projects stand out.)

Yes. Point taken, but not many people do actually do that.

They do. (Or did) one-end of the scale or the other is very common in K'NEX.
Collecting subs' is another thing - I've seen things like "prize = sub' and next 3 I'bles 5*"

Well how are we supposed to find the best of things?

Perhaps you could find a new metric - title and intro image perhaps? Leave comments on projects that have great images and titles - and kindly point out ones that don't. There's no way to abuse it, either, so it could be a great way to tell - great knex projects have a great title/image, meh ones have meh title/image, bad ones have bad title/image.

There are WAY too many instructables/slideshows/videos saying BOLT ACTION and claiming things that they are not, over the handful which actually are.

Ah Damnit! Just when i reach the top, they take it away! My led cube instructable just reached the top of the list. I was thinking about making another awsome led cube instructable to see if I could get two instructables in the top 5 ;) In my opinion the system worked just fine. I sailed all the way to the top without any cheating. Please bring it back! - chr
