Ratio of views to comments... Answered

Over some time I've noticed that the ratio of instructables pageviews to commenters has increased on the side of pageviews, both with new and pre-existing instructables.

The featuring of instructables in categories and channels has definitely increased pageviews overall but with less commenters.

It could be that there are more visitors overall but that more are non-members, or that the community has extended a bit.  Though this isn't unusual on the internet, most places have a ratio of views to comments of less than 1%...

Just something I've noticed on my own and few other instructables, not much more than a thought...

I for one tend not to comment when the 'ible is old or when I can see the person has not answered a lot of questions that were asked.

So what is our ratio? And are there really other communities out there besides Instructables?

There are, though few have this kind of format, which certainly encourages more active community relations... - Did that sound dirty? If so oops, I spent the day writing an effects debate in innuendo...

I would like to know, as an average, though looking at my recent published the ratio's very variable but it's affected a lot by conversations.  Having the database at a persons disposal would make it easy to see how many individuals comment on instructables vs. views.

You speak innuendo? I only have the accent. My local library has tapes (yeah, tapes) to teach people to speak with different accents, I used to rent them and learn the accent because it only takes about 2 weeks rather than the years it takes to learn the language.

I don't even know what to say... I'm either in love or a tad horrified...

I think you are horrified to find yourself in love... let's get married and we can have Killer Bean Babies

Oh I already got it! Wow, you are fluent in innuendo.

That said I'd love to hear you grapple with the intricacies of the language...

Indeed I do grapple but the intricacies are what I am passionate about. An "ible writer from another planet (Brussels) wrote that his project was "cool uh?" I had to explain that he meant "cool huh?" and that "cool uh" was really as if he had written "cool duh", hows that for an intricacy? Now get out of here and go have a Guinness or something for your birthday.

It's "may" I join, and but of course - though I think we are done here - I'm worn out anyway, Killer is a lot younger than I am and maybe he can keep it going but I am going to go smoke the proverbial cigarette. Very proverbial.

Proverbial cigarettes are not really any healthier than regular ones. That's just a myth.

This would make an interesting Perl script. Produce an excel spreadsheet of a user's ibles showing the name of the ible, number of views and number of comments and the ratio between the two. Totally doable too.

Specifically though KillerJ was mentioning how comment totals can be effected by conversations, there is not a way to filter those I suppose though. You are so good at this Perl script writing and the one you wrote to give Kelseymh a sense of humor is really working - every day I come across funny things he is saying now.

The spell checker says "humor" is not a word, that is sort of funny.

Colour, humour, honour, armour, neighbour, rumour, labour. :)

Oh, funny, I checked it on my email spellchecker and it came back fine - I can't spell very well, I am so right-brained or my mom dropped me on my head or something.

Perhaps this could be included in the new "Total Views" group? It would be simpler than having people PM Jayefuu about this all the time. (Which would be happening...)

knex ibles have less views in general, but more comments.  That's pretty much the exception here.
