Replicas... Answered

Replicas... what can I say?  Some people like them, some people hate them.  I'm starting to get sick of them, after I post my F2000, I'm going to take a break and make a war kit.  It will have:

Sniper
Assault Rifle
Shotgun
Sidearm

For my sniper, it will definitely be a slingshot.  The shotgun will have multiple bullets per shot, and the assault rifle will have good range and a high ROF.  I'm not really sure if I should make the sidearm oodamo or not.

Do you guys think I should follow through with this idea, or should I just make replicas?  If I do this, I will certainly go back to replicas after, but this will come first.  Tell me what you guys think I should do.

If those guns you make are worth it, then sure. Go for it.  But only if they are quality guns.

They will be, i'm just sick of guns that shoot 20 feet, my F2000 will have an amazing range though, it has a double sided guide, a TR pullback, and it uses a hopper.  I'll have some pics up soon.

Something to keep in mind about performance-based guns is that their worth is not subjective. If your guns don't do something better than a TR, SRV2, or ZKAR, they're not going to be worth building. There aren't any good shotguns though, so you should try to build one of those.

So you are saying that if a gun does not beat the very best in its class, there is no point in posting it?

oodalumps (author)TheChemiker2010-05-13

Yes. But I didn't say they had to beat them in every way. They just need to do one thing better.

So if a gun has something that either one of those guns that you mentioned doesn't have, then it's alright to post?

Yes. But it would be pretty hard to beat the guns in any way. ZKAR has ROF, slingshots and NAR have range, TR is a mix of ROF and range. Slingshots are all the same, and I don't think it's possible for a firing pin gun to shoot farther than a NAR; so the only thing that can be done is to make a gun with better ROF than a ZKAR (but still gets decent range).

What about a high ROF slingshot?

If you could make one that works well, sure. But at all the KI wars, we have banned rods with tape fins. I don't know if it would be a war-legal gun.

I believe oblivitus has made a repeating Oodammo slingshot.

It wont use fins, I don't like finned ammo

Then it won't be worth making it a slingshot. They don't work well at all without fin ammo.

As long as it gets over 100ft...  it should be fine

I'd rather go at it from a different angle other than performance.  For example, sure the AR-4 v3 doesn't have the ROF of the ZKAR, and it gets similar ranges, but the reload times are still faster, except when you use removable mags, but if you use those you can't reload the mag when it's half empty.  Also the pin doesn't break.

It's kind of like in video games like Halo 3 where you have 2 weapons that are similar but have different advantages/disadvantages.

Faster/easier reloading works too. But the ZKAR has some mods for faster reloading too.

Making a gatling gun or machine gun from a long time ago with NAR barrels would probably have better ROF and maybe range than the ZKAR.

I guess you're right... but I guess I have to start somewhere if I ever want to make a gun anywhere close to as good as those.

Logic boy's war kit:
Sniper - NAR logic bow
Assault rifle - planned logic bow "X"
Shotgun - FSSG (what more can I say)
Sidearm - my midget oodammo pistol

NAR logic bow?  Do you have any pics?

nope, the design was simple enough. Anyway its now obsolete, Logic bow 2 is complete and it destroys all of the other L Bow varients.

We all need a break time to time. I got sick of them after awhile too. I haven't made anything big since the UMP-45 which was actually a long time ago. I tried making an M1A1 Thompson but even that didn't turn out as well as I was hoping. I'm more into making original weapons. From what I've learned though, you can make better replicas when you've gotten a lot better at making new guns in general. Then you can apply some of the concepts you've learned into new replicas to make them look good and fire well.

I agree, I hate when I make an amazing looking gun, and it can barely even shoot.  I need to learn how to make good mechs, and things like that.
