SRv3 Answered

I plan on using this forum to show off the SRv3 and get others to help me finish the project. JonnyBgood is right now working on building the SRv3. It is my hope that together along with help from others on the site can continue to make this gun project a more complete more beautiful gun. The gun as is... is capable of shooting 500ft with my fin ammo and bands pictured. If you have the pieces and some eye protection I highly recommend you build the gun and help finish the project! I can not ever take full credit for my work since I learn not only from my past builds and ideas but also from each and everyone on this site and KI. I want to thank everyone for there many ideas and awesome builds that keeps me motivated to come back again and again to check in on the builds. I can't wait to see what this gun becomes. I plan on one day posting an ible once the gun is further along. I hope you all enjoy watching the progress and help be apart of it!

This gun is just so much fun to shoot! It is incredible how far this thing shoots! Shot it outside for the first time this year and it did not disappoint shooting well over 500ft! Considering I designed the gun to do just that I am very pleased with how the gun performs! I'm Excited to bring it to the K'nex war to show off and shoot.

That thing is monstrous. Any idea how much it weighs?

I'm impressed with how much you've done to streamline the design and overcome the problem of that huge draw distance. How long's it been in the works?

I've been working on the v3 for about a year now but only on and off most of the work was completed last summer with just a few improvements here and there since. Still not a completed project but a perfectly fine working one none the less. Thanks for the compliment.

Holy.... My jaw literally dropped when I saw that ratchet go down. I thought at fist that it was big, but then I saw how truly massive that gun is.

yeah it is a big gun! lol super fun to shoot I haven't built much lately busy with life but I love working on that gun

I have been a huge fan of your building stile from day one, and it is really impressive to see how many little ways that you have improved the SRv3. Yet again, when I see videos of you shooting this beast, it makes me want to work on it with you. The problem being that if I were to build this, I wouldn't have many pieces left to build what I really love, replicas. All the same, this is really impressive, and it will be a really cool project once it is fully posted.

Nevertheless, and I know TD has said something like this before, I don't really see the point of the SRv3... And I don't mean to sound rude, but what is the point of a gun that can't (obviously) be used in a K'NEX war, and is not a model or replica of a real gun (XD, it actually kinda looks like a Barret M82A1)? I understand that it has CRAZY power, and this is cool, so far as it goes, but it only really gets super good range (I believe that you said 700 ft.?) at a 45 degree angle. What is its range at a strait angle? I would suggest that you add some more practical features. Things like a bi-pod, a set of iron (LOL, plastic) sights, a under-barrel shotgun (or maybe find a way to strap your TR8 to the SRv3?), stuff of that kind. Again, I don't want to sound rude... the SRv3 is great and all, but really (IMO) impractical.

About the second part of your response, I think it is just for fun. You know, like how far can we get a knex gun to actually shoot? Even if it can't be used in a knex war, nor be a model, that doesn't limit what kinds of gun you can build.

Sure, and I can understand that, but then again, that is kinda like building a K'NEX model (like some of the stuff that dr. richtofen has built) that is not a copy of a real firearm and cannot shoot or make... there really isn't a point.

Even if this gun can shoot up to 700 ft. what is the point of that, if you can't shoot up to 700 ft. accurately...? Again, I don't want to sound mean, but I am just wondering.

Hey I hate to resurrect a dead comment but the range of this thing is completely believable. I have my own version of the SR-V3 and from the power it demonstrates indoors ( with the regular bands I have on it ) is unlike anything on this site.

Seeing this work in person, definitely a must.

You should give it a try. I'll get you some pics on how mine works ( granted I find time to do it ) so maybe you can give it a try yourself.

hey jonny very happy you like it! I haven't messed with it in a good week or so cause ive been busy but man is it fun to shoot! We should totally have a sniper war this upcoming summer! I have my SRv3 you have your variant. I have another prototype v3 that I'm messing with ideas on. mask up and it could be awesome

I guess you're just more logical than I am. If the gun isn't practical in a knex war than why use it? To each his own I guess :)

Thanks for the compliment Red. Well the gun as of now shoots 500ft angled so half that range or 250ft is pretty easy to hit and I have hit targets at that range. The gun does have plastic sights and I am working on a few other aiming ideas even tho it is very easy to aim as is. The gun is not completed yet but once it is it will obvious incorporate a bipod of some sort I just haven't designed one as of yet mostly because I haven't had the time. In terms of what is the point of the SRv3?... I say 1 i enjoy building and shooting the gun for starters. 2 I have always envisioned the gun with the ratchet mech and bullpup design since I first came out with the v1. The point of the v1 was to out range any K'nex gun on a typical K'nex war... It did at the time but as weapons developed it lost its edge. The SRv1 shot around 250 to 300ft which by the time I completed my TR it was out matched with the same range and the TR obviously has better rate of fire. So it became obsolete on the field of battle so to speak lol and more of a novelty gun. I was discontent with that and back when the SRv2 was in developement I learned alot about what I one day wanted the gun to accomplish. The SRv3 was everything I wanted the gun to be and then some. I wanted the gun to outshoot any K'nex gun to be an effective sniper platform that could be used in a war. I accomplished this by having it shoot 2x as far as the max range of the TR. At 500ft the gun is impressive to watch shoot. And now with the ratchet mech the gun is easier for the average shooter to load which was always a problem with the gun. It's not like you need to load fast when you have a team of TRs or whatever holding the lines locking down the firing lanes while you site back well out of range of the enemy delivering strike and strike. Imposing fear and unknowing on the field. I do have to admit it is dangerously powerful but with paintball masks it is safe at range hence why it is still the best sniper platform that can accually act as an effective and scary weapon of the field. Overall I just enjoy working of the project and as of yet the TR8 is yet to be eclipsed by a better all around weapon. Not saying it can't be done or that it is the best at everything. Just saying in terms of overall range ROF accuraccy ease of use reliability the gun is yet to be trumped. I hope one day it does get surpased but until then I have a hard time coming up with ideas that I really really want to pursue and build cause every time I end up giving up on it cause the TR is hard to beat. I will beat the gun someday but for now I am enjoying building guns with other benefits or possible uses for different purposes. Indoor guns would look far different than outdoor guns in my opinion. Not saying the TR couldn't do the job but it might not be the absolute best for the job and obviously indoors the SRv3 is overkill lol. I guess ill stop rambling now but I say all this to say... I love the SRv3 it is a ton of fun to shoot and brings sniping into the playing field as no other K'nex gun can.

Are you honestly arguing that because it doesn't necessarily have a place in a war setting that it's impractical and there's no point in working on? I don't want to sound rude.. But every single one of your guns, save of course your replicas (lol yeah they totally have a point! real realistic, can't tell them apart at all!!), is then pointless.

We're playing with toys. KK has always build stuff that works well and enjoys doing so. The hell is the problem with that.

This gun is awesome! I'll be reviewing my version (hopefully) on Tuesday.

Thanks, I couldn't really understand how the trigger latched onto the round.

how to load and shoot safely video above

I CAN'T WAIT until this is posted

Yeah it is a fun project to build and shoot. Not sure how long before it gets posted. I want to work on the non essencials like body work and stuff. Along with a super solid bipod. I could be super fun to make another future weapons spoof or something like that again. lol Happy your excited

So I'm impressed with this thing (as always) but can you give a couple more pictures of this thing? I want to build one so a good overall picture and one of the ratchet mech and trigger would be nice. I've been sizing up your sr v3 pics for a little bit now and I know I easily have enough pieces to build it. I just don't understand how the trigger works.

sure Jonny I'll get you some more pics this weekend! Anything you need to build it. Ill see if I can't post a bunch up tomorrow. It would be really cool to see someone else help me work on the project!

Thanks! For starters can you send some pictures of the trigger mech and how it works.

Well it looks pretty good! I'm going to get started working with the body of the gun and maybe the ratchet. If you could show that trigger mech om action that would be great! From what I understand though, it just clamps down on top of the round right?

But does it see why we like cinnamon toast crunch?
