Can you give me a little more info? What are you trying to do? If the needle stops in the wrong position, you can use the hand wheel to put it up or down.

It may really depend on your machine, but my Bernina has a button that you push to have the needle stop in the down position. If you push the button again, it will turn that off and it will stop in the up position again. Having the needle in the down position is helpful if you are going around a corner or anything that requires you to rotate the project, so you don't loose where the needle was last.
